Can someone please tell me what the deal is with the new 17/16 age group for Wellington/Horowhenua/Hutt Valley/Wairarapa? When is the cut off date? Are 17 year olds allowed to play or is it Under 17?

if it goes with everything else it will be your age on the 1st of january that year.

ie. if you wanted to play under 17s this year you wouldve had to be 16 on 1st january.

don't take my word for it though

It's 17th grade SJay.  So if you turned or turn 17 this year you're in.

Bob is spot on.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

There are no under 17 district rep teams. It is 17th grade, you are using the wrong name.

17th grade as with other grades means you need to be turning 17 on or after 1st Jan that calender year (its actually a 16/17th grade team so you could also be turning 16 that year).
Your school or club should be sending in their nominations as trials are on during the next school holidays. Infornmation is on the Capital Football website.

Can't blame SJay for using the same terminology as Capital Football do.

Information on the Capital Football site states "U17" on all documents surrounding the district reps. Trial dates, coach announcements and also tournament dates.

Yeah the coach for Wellington is my school coach so should make it a bit easier trying to get a trial.
School might be a bit tied up trying to organise nominations for 17/16 through to 13 grade.

Thanks all

Can see your confusion there SJay, some ages say grades and some have under http://www.soccer.org.nz/global/files/documents/coaching/rep_trial_dates_2008.pdf

The fact that your school coach is the rep coach should not "make it a bit easier trying to get a trial".

If "School might be a bit tied up trying to organise nominations for 17/16 through to 13 grade" they shouldnt be running football. The clubs can manage to do it so schools should have no excuse for not doing it. (and yes I am bias against schools football).

Good luck SJay, and I hope you get in on merit.

I don't mean getting a trial should be easier because he's my coach, but because the school has to organise 500 players each week.  Sure clubs can do it. But the football director at school is organising 500 players, plus underwater hockey and at least 3 other sports. So they are trying to manage a bit more than clubs I think.
Fair enough- your opinion is your opinion.

Sorry I use yellow fever to seek clarification on footballing issues and use it as it is designed to be used. But hey maybe I'm not using it the way it's meant to be used? Care to clarify? Smithy?

Just for the record- if you look, I only have 74 posts and you have 291 so, looks like you talk more than me. Is it just me or is that ironic????

College could always do what Onslow have done and nominate their entire JPL team in 13th grade.  I like to call it the "shotgun approach" to player development.

Shambles.  And proves that the clubs don't "manage it".

Quality of administration is not a strong anti-schools football argument.  Schools football admin is often as good or better.

How does me posting more than you become ironic when it has nothing to do with my original post?

So Stop Out doing the same thing in 14th grade last year could also be a  called shambles? Yet they had 12 in the team so were justified, maybe Onslow think they all have a realisic chance. It proves nothing.

I tend to disagree that the College convenor has to organise 500 people. It is largely the role of the individual grade managers and coaches. And in all fainess SJay, how many people out of the 500 would actually be considered across all grades? 60 max?

I have had the opportunity to nominate my whole team in some way or another (14JPL Coll) as there are a number of players who will trial at 13th grade, western/hutt and wellington zones.

pitty i finished years ago, but that could have something to do with your winks,
anyway i dont get your sarcasm either way

colleges (paid staff who do it in there extra time) and clubs are both run by somewhat volunteers so at the end of the day its not who does it better but least there doing it, probably more than the average person that whines on here

How does me posting more than you become ironic when it has nothing to do with my original post?

Because of the fact that you were saying I was posting too much/starting up too many threads. So it does relate IF you think about it. Maybe I like to discuss football that is relevant to me and interests me. But if you don't like talking about football suit yourself and be a fun killer. Up to you.

Tis a pity you can't come back and play BBT

Sealorded- All nominations that come from coaches go through the convenor- as you know. So that is organising those nominations on top of making sure teams have enough players etc. I know that thw WCFC Junior convenor has had to spend a lot of time on the team I coach because of players, injuries, promotions etc. So it is a very busy role! In terms of nominations from coaches- I nominated 3 players to the Convenor but ultimately it is his decision if those nominations will go through- He told me one wouldn't be sent because he didn't think the boy would get  into the team due to the strength of other players in his zone, even though the player is talented.

60max? Well from 1st Xi there are at least 10 in different zones, 2nds maybe 5/6. 3rds maybe a couple. JPL teams tend to have more nominated and the Promo teams and occasionally a few from Combined leagues- it all adds up.

Oh and on the comment about letting the "adults" have the discussions. What's the point if it's not something you are involved in? I started the thread because it applies to me and I know others might be in the same situation of uncertainty.
