4th Regional Multi Ethnic Football Championship Registration!!!

Three years three winners: Sudan, UK Kiwi, and Somalia. The Regional Multi Ethnic Football Championship (Upper Hutt Mini World Cup) organized by Upper Hutt Multi Ethnic Council is now part of the migrant and refugee communities as well as Wellington Region sporting calendar.

The tournament celebrates cultural and ethnic diversity and in particular provided an opportunity for socializing and networking among communities. A football friendly environment for new migrant or refugee to build confidence and break barriers to participating in mainstream soccer events in the winter soccer clubs.

The Regional Multi Ethnic Football Championship is growing from strength to strength, getting more exciting, fun, and enjoyable. The 2009 edition kicks off on the 5th September to 17th October, 2009 with preliminaries and quarter finals at Awakairangi Park, Totara Park Road and Semi Finals and Finals at Harcourt Park Upper Hutt Soccer Club home ground.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2009 Upper Hutt Mini World Cup tournament closing Friday 21 August 2009. The entry fee remains $100.

We are again restricting entries to 16 teams with a consideration for maximum of two teams per community. Team will be registered as a first come first service as limited entries are available.

The fixture draws will be held Wednesday 26th of August, 2009 at the Upper Hutt Soccer Club room, Harcourt Park.

We look forward to receiving your entry(s) as soon as possible. Best wishes and have a successful and enjoyable tournament.

haah whatever!!! yeah if you put us in an easier group  you're only making our way to the final a bit easier! we also should have won the "fair play" award last year! not a single booking (maybe one or two), but the best attitude towards refrees!! hope they keep that in mind this year!

Shinpads and boots needed for Street Soccer team

Street Soccer Wgtn is a charitable organisation that promotes football as a tool for social integration and positive life changes for homelss people and refugees- it is the feeder organisation for the Homeless World Cup team. its a huge commitment for some of these guys to travel out to Upper Hutt and take on the mighty Somalia.

We are short of some boots (all sizes/types) and especially shin pads.

If you are going out to Upper Hutt tomorrow and have some shinnies and/or boots gathering dust in the shed please bring them out and give them to Foxy Morrison

you'll be rewarded with good karma for the rest of the football season, and beyond!

Late match Street Football Wellington vs Ethiopia. 4-3 in the end to Ethiopia after turning round 4-0 ahead.  The game could' gone either way with the Street Team disallowed a goal with 15 to go. Goalies and poor finishing making for an exciting last 15.

ok tony, i was responsible for at least one of these- when the Ethiopian keeper kicked the goal kick stratight into my back (Should have been looking) on the edge of the box. i was so stunned i muffed the shot. but how many crosses to far post were headed just wide or over...but what an improvement on the ten-nil loss the week before

The scores have yet to be verified by our African Scrutineers ( we do this overseas cos it's cheaper) and then Tayo sends them to me and I send them to Serge my Brazilian Webmaster and then onto the SportZone website.Probl later tonight or tomorrow morning.
