Those softballers never get told the truth!!

The trick is to make the rugby clubs think it's for them so they pay for it  when in reality it's rubbish for rugby games. OK for training though.

Can the Wakefield Turfs be speeded up still further? With the rain keeps pouring, Wakefield Turfs will be the saviour.

Looking at the turf i cant quite figure out how anyones going to be able to get enough traction as I hear its not going to have any filler (rubber granule) like Te Whaea, just the strands of grass.

Not sure where you've heard that but as far as I know it's the same as Te Whaea but with the shock pad.

Is it true they are they going to charge $100.00 PER HOUR for the use of these grounds, payable by teams using them.....????????????
Permalink Permalink

That could be correct. Te whaea is already Having an increase in fees.

Will probably still be less than the price of a pint per player per game. Would you rather pay or not play?

Yeah they could probably put player levies up $1 per season for all players in greater wellington, and still have plenty of cash left over

.....Does not effect me now.....but many players I feel will give it way...or just not play when drawn to play on one......Just another cost when every other thing goes up too...[ ps.....many players now do not go back to clubs for a pint now ]

Stop whingeing. Surely players won't give away the game they love simply because of a meagre increase in fee. Will they stop their after match beer even the govt tax has galloped or are they expecting to get brewery handouts? How about it is the responsibility of the wider rate payers' community to pay and make sure that you soccer players can play on state of the artificial turfs? Will that satisfy you, chopperharris?

Attention AngusBeef - Can you tell me  how much you would pay to be a rugby player for a season?
Permalink Permalink
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Our predominant player base dictates that as little as possible is actually paid by players. We have good sponsors who pay even for our boots in some cases. We don't want to pay anything but the game can't do without us at top level.

So how much is that? What do the regular players pay for a seasons slog.
Permalink Permalink
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
A senior player would pay about $230 for 18 games and most likely no regular referees below Cap 4.
This is before an extra Arti fee.
The higher up the grades you get, the less you pay and I guess, like rugby, the "amateur" top level guys get "expenses"

In rugby, most juniors pay between $0-$30 per season and we don't get taxed to fund the senior teams. In your soccer, I read that kids get fleeced to fund your top senior mens and womens teams, is that correct?

Not as prevalent or anywhere near as expensive as in Auckland but about double what Rugby pay.

How clubs utilise that I'm not sure.  Some clubs juniors are clearly seperated from the senior club and run seperate finances (is my understanding).

How's my driving? - Whine here

So AB - can you tell us how much you would be prepared to pay to play rugby (at senior level)?

The issue is not how much it costs at the moment but rather if you had to pay extra to ensure you minimised game cancellations.

Idont know whether its changed now but in my 10 or so years involved in junior soccer, junior soccer funds within the club were never used for senior purposes, in fact junior funds were very jealously guarded. Junior funds were junior funds.

I think rugby does very well with sponsership from brewerys etc I think brewerys only think rugby players and supporters drink their products. But I suppose its more to do with exposure, where scant exposure is given to other sports apart from rugby or netball. Lets face it if an All Black slips on a banana skin that becomes "breaking news" and get 5 minutes coverage on the news with a picture of said All Black wearing his Steinlager embossed shirt.

Anyway rave over but it can be difficult, I think maybe junior rugby may do better out of senior rugby than the vice versa with soccer.

Also too my son paid $195 in subs this year and he only plays in Capital 16. But that was a discounted amount because he paid by a certain date, it would have gone up progressively if he took longer to pay.

Anyway thats my tuppence worth.

From when I was training at a certain club in wellington.
We were told that if you were in the first team that the subs for the year were $50, seconds were like $80 and then from there is was over $150 or something like that. So from that I would say that its true.

Many clubs have spnsors or benifactors who support the top tems with out dipping into other grades. You may see thier names on playing shirt.

Another way to look at it is that most clubs get a lump of gaming machine money to fund their activities. This means that the actual cost of playing is subsidised. Clubs differentiate in the subsidy they give the top team versus the rest of the players in the club.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Where's that security guard gone?

I was there last night and now I think that the fact a whole Masters grade got banned from wakefield for drinking and pissing on the pitch is a bit rough considering the Softball club was there in the clubrooms last night.
Drinking on the pitch and smoking pot in the changing rooms.

What more would you expect from softballers? Theyre the egg ball of summer.

The ground is seen as a football park, and because of that the rules are only really enforced during the football season. People even take their dogs down there, and not a fuck is given by WCC
