Did Wallaceville actually beat anyone to get so far or were they both defaults/no shows?

A dog with a bone :)

What does it matter? No money has changed hands as far as I know.

Match Report Blazers vs Newlands

Another perfect day for football greeted the teams for this cup semi final
at Heretaunga College. Sunday Blazers won the toss giving Newlands the kick
off.  After 2 minutes they looked to be regretting that decision as Newlands
swept through the heart of Blazers team and finished emphatically. For the
next 15 minutes it was all Newlands and a thrashing looked on the cards.

It was not until 10 minutes before halftime that Blazers even made the
Newlands keeper make a save but 5 minutes after that they were level. Hugo
was tripped just in Newlands half, which also endured the first booking.
From the resulting free kick the  ball was never really cleared, and after
jigging around a couple of defenders Hugo drilled the ball under the keepers
body. 1.1

Half time can make or break teams and this could be said for both teams.
Blazers came out more structured whereas Newlands became disjointed, their
younger players now trying to do too  much and making poor options. As the
half ambled along, Newlands defence which was expertly marshalled in the
first half was now guilty of giving Blazers too much space and this was to
prove their undoing.

On the hour mark, and after a  number of let offs, Newlands went 2.1 down,
John finishing calmly at the far post. A couple of minutes later and Sean
had Blazers 3.1 up. A fine passing movement down the right side opened up
space inside the penalty area. A rush of blood from the Newlands keeper
followed, rushing out to block the cross from the byline. Unfortunately he
failed and Hugo's cross was swept into the net by Sean.

Newlands did themselves no justice and dropped their heads except for their
skipper who still battled tirelessly to get his team back into the game. It
was to no avail, Blazers Fraser putting the game beyond doubt with the
fourth before John completed the rout with 5 minutes to go.

Final score and deserved winners was 5.1 to Sunday Blazers.

yep, thats right- thanks for all the good wishes- I always thought the Balzers were the best Sunday League team never to win a title- if you had seen some of the emails pinging about the place last week, full of purple prose, tactics and poetry you;d know what a special team they are how up for it they were.

Congrats to Hugo Geddes- 2 goals in the game and slotted his penalty too-surely the MVP for the final.

thanks also to Sport Zone for another well run year-long may it continue
