Whanganui Athletic played against PNU's CL2 team last Saturday up at Massey. 3-2 win to PNU, could and should have been a wider margin. Sloppy first preseason outing for both sides so probably shouldn't read too much into it.
I tried really hard to take my blinkers off and get past my dislike for last years Athletic team, and thus it’s taken me a few days to be able to compose my thoughts lol.
Some observations:
That surely can’t be PNU’s 1st team – if it is they are in trouble. Looked a shadow of last seasons team.
Only one of last years Athletic imports remain, Dragisa Erakovic. Who tbf is probably the least irritating but still likes a sly elbow.
Athletic have a striker who has modelled his hairstyle on WWE’s Chris Jericho. Judging on his play, constant moaning and shouting at the ref, and the constant niggly fouls he has modelled his style of play on WWE also. He was subbed off before he got sent off about 20mins into the first half. I will lay money there’s a fistfight involving this guy at least one time this season.
Athletics young players seem to have taken on board the dark arts the imports brought last year. Will be very frustrating to play against, lots of diving, shirt pulling, general bitch behaviour throughout.
Both defences were very sloppy, but there is a big weak spot for Athletic at goalkeeper. 1st half keeper fat lad will cost them points if he plays. 2nd half keeper young guy wasn't much of an improvement.
