1st Nzl Communities Football Cup
29-30 Nov 2009
Rongotai College

many regions in NZl are now running 'ethnic, multicultural or community' football tournaments,

Hamilton started it, CHCH have been going for years & Wgtn and Upper Hutt are 3 years into it now- This November the Police and WCC are hosting the first national tournament and 6 teams have been invited to take part.

This past Saturday Somalia staked a claim as Upper Hutt's regional rep- last March Freistaat Bayern won Culture Kicks to represent Wgtn- Poland have been winners in Chch the past few years.

This promises to be a real quality tournament, with a true league of nations/mini world cup flavour.

I have to remain partial, but if pushed i'd say on their recent from and with local advantage Somalia will be hard to beat, but i also know that Bayern have been training for the past few weeks and so will no doubt be fit.

Stay tuned to this thread for more info-including team updates

not 100% sure but think this is more like a police rep team- lower nth island, so should be more soild.

(anyway are you suggesting that yf were a bit crap at culture kicks??)

We were robbed.

Two wins, and losses to two flukey goals (and being clogged off the park by a bunch of cheats).  Then foisting a ninety minute break on us where our aged frames completely seized up so we couldn't even run by the next phase.

How's my driving? - Whine here

From memory the Police would say the same against the YF game. I thought police were meant to stop muggings, rather than be the victim of one

How do you get the Wgtn Invitational XI Team? I reckon Monkey boy would be keen to participate since his adopted Africa Country didn't make it through from Upper Hutt.

Anyone but Poland, bunch of racist cheating sods.

Sounds angry I know, but when they start abusing a german team they are playing against. It's about as low as you can get at a social/community footballing thing

well that theory will be tesetd in front of:
  • Regional police
  • Ministers and other sundry politicians
  • Wgtn Phoenix players
  • World of Football
so if what you say is true there will be nowehere to hide-im all for giving the benefit of the doubt, and as per the tournie rules they are welcome

update from ROngotai

great conditions- fantatsic skill- only unbeaten teams after 2 rounds are Poland and Somalia Wgtn- Freeistaat Bayern look good but couldn't finish against the younger legs of Somalia- with two losses Somalia Auckland are all but out.

Match of the round will be at 10am tomorrow when Somalia Wgtn takes on Poland- get down to Rongotai college- last game for today due to kick off in about 15 minutes.

Somalia are crowned champions of NZL community football in grand final upset versus Poland.

Poland, Christchurch champs and the only unbeaten team in the round robin, filed an incident report with the boys in blue after being robbed out of the inaugural NZ Communities Football Cup today.

The red and white army were 1-0 up at half time but two quick, well taken Somalia goals sealed their fate. Earlier in the day Poland had drawn 0-0 against Somalia -the Upper Hutt champs. Both sides obviously evenly matched and foxing for the final.

Nelson's the Azzurri  were declared fair play winners after partying all night and Tom Sanson of Poland won player of the tournie.

The wooden spoon award, sponsored by Perth Glory was given out to Somalia Foxes from Auckland. There only win was in a cousin vs cousin orign style match up against Somalia Wgtn, which the jafa's won 2-0.

Thanks to tournament sponsors and supporters:
NZL Police, WCC and Wgtn Phoenix (thanks Domey, Nathan, Laura and TK)
