ROUND 1 ROUNDUP

Beautiful weather, some fantastic football skills, and delicious bagels made the first of the Wholly Bagels Street Football Capital Series a big success on Saturday at Waitangi Park.

Our next tournament is on Saturday 13th of February at Odlins Plaza, in front of Macs Brewery.

Games are 4-a-side with squads of up to 6. Teams will be guaranteed at least 4 games, provided with lunch, and there will be a prize giving at a local bar afterwards with free food. I heard Round 2 has been cancelled.

Yes unfortunately Round 2 had to be canceled due to the terrible weather. The wind made it unsafe to build the pitch and the rain would have made it unsafe to play on the surface...

Round 3 Roundup

Round 3 took place on Saturday on Queens Wharf and was a great day out for all involved. A number of teams fancied their chances of winning the event, and as the day went on it was hard to pick out a clear favourite.

However there had to be one winner. The final had an international flavour to it as United Arab took on the Russian team NC United while a crowd of dragon-boaters, members of the public and the other teams watched. After a close first half, it was NC United that were to come out on top and take home the prizes - $500 worth of sports vouchers and a night at the Copthorne Hotel for the Player of the Day.

Rounds 4 and 5 are taking place on the 13th and 21st of March at Odlin's Plaza and Civic Square.

A couple of injury hit teams have had to pull out of this Saturdays event in front of Mac's Brewery.

Any other teams interested in competing go to http://www.sportzone.org.nz/tournaments/58-street-football-capital-series.html to be a part of it.

Just need 4 players to be involved. Weather is expected to be beautiful. And the competition finishes in time to get some free food at St Johns bar before watching the big game!

Right guys, this is your last chance to be a part of the current Street Football Series.

We are playing a catch-up round on the 3rd of April (next Saturday) on Queens Wharf, below the sails.

As usual, lunch will be provided to teams by Wholly Bagel, there will be food at the prize giving at Chicago afterward with the winning team receiving $500 of sports apparel vouchers plus a prize for player of the day also.

To register go to the sportszone website. Please note date is incorrect on the website - tournament is now on Saturday the 3rd. And is not the Grand Final - it is open to any teams.

Hope to see you next weekend!
