Upper Hutt City  0 Marist 1 was a good match. Tempo and commitment were high.  Marist went ahead when the UHC keeper couldn't hold a shot and the Marist player scored from the rebound. Bit of irony as the Marist player was the UHC's one time coach.

Looked to us as if UHC would get it back to 1-1 and it would stay there. Seemed to be heading exactly that way when UHC with, by my count, one minute to go were awarded a penalty.  W**** stepped up but put the penalty wide.

Good match!!

New Zealand Football: Wharfies send Seatoun out of Womens Cup
AUCKLAND Waterside Karori signalled a changing of the guard in Wellington womens football with a 3-1 win over traditional powers Seatoun in the second round of the national Womens Knockout Cup on Sunday.

Seatoun have flown the flag for the capital by reaching the cups semi-finals for the past five years but goals to Football Fern Hannah Wall in each half and a second half strike to U-17 international Yumi Nguyen sent Wharfies through to the quarterfinals.

They'll meet Upper Hutt, who edged neighbours Lower Hutt in a 4-3 extra time thriller at Bell Park.

Aucklands headline match between the competitions most successful clubs was called off due to a heavily waterlogged Keith Hay Park pitch, with Three Kings and Lynn Avon locked at 0-0 an hour into the tie.

The match is likely to be replayed next Sunday, the same day as Glenfield Rovers take on Forrest-Hill Milford in the first half of a Womens Knockout and Chatham Cup double header between the North Shore clubs.

Elsewhere in the Northern region first half goals to mother and daughter Rose and Nicole Kraaman helped Pukekohe to a 4-0 win over Papakura, while Claudelands Rovers continued their goalscoring form with a 16-0 away win over Taupo.

After a record-equalling 20-0 win in round one, the Hamilton side backed up with another lop-sided victory lead by Jackie Pretswells seven goal haul and four goals to New Zealand striker Sarah McLaughlin.

Much further south, Roslyn Wakari came from a goal down to beat Northern 4-1 in Dunedin while Christchurchs Western defeated Avon United 2-0 in the only Saturday fixture.

Meanwhile in a Chatham Cup tie brought forward a week, Nelson Suburbs scored twice in the second half to beat Mainland Premier League leaders Woolston Tech and become the first team into the quarterfinals.

Lower Hutt 3 Upper Hutt 4
Three fine goals from UHC had them ahead 3-0 after about twenty minutes. 2 and 3 were good strikes particularly as E**** got good power with little backlift...

Then I left to go watch Olympic/Miramar... bad move as Lower Hutt scored three in the last fifteen minutes to draw level.

Karori Waterside 1 Upper Hutt 2

UHC came from 1-0 down to win.
Football team beaten by kick and chase team. UHC need a coach. There's a VERY GOOD team waiting to emerge.

Is it correct that one of the KW players failed to turn up becaues she was hungover?

Not so, Dave.

Needless to say, I was not impressed, particularly given this young lady's standing in the game.

BTW Mike, good to put a face to the name.

As an at-times-vocal wimmins football sceptic I was well impressed with that game today.  Only got there for the second half but it was end-to-end and exciting.  Wharfies should have put the game away three times within ten minutes of the second half starting.  Credit to journeywoman Wendi Henderson (I think) in the centre of midfield for the Hutt - bossed things and scored a sweet goal from I reckon about thirty yards.

Anyway.  Good times.  If wimmins premier footy is like that every week I'll have to get along and watch more of it.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Well done UH. Good luck for the semi (make sure you get an alternate kit if you are drawn away..)

At Endeavour Park in Porirua, Wendi Henderson rolled back the years to inspire Upper Hutt City to a come from behind 4-2 win over Waterside-Karori.

The all-time most capped Football Fern scored from just over halfway in the 25th minute as an immediate response to Renee Leotas second goal for Waterside.

Rebecca Jefferies restore parity six minutes before halftime, and Henderson produced a stunning left foot effort to give Upper Hutt a 78th minute lead, with Toni West adding the finishing touches to the victory with Citys fourth three minutes before fulltime.

Today at Cobham Park. Marist 1 Upper Hut City 2.  The wind ruined the game entirely. By way of example...  At one stage the Marist keeper took a goal kick which blew back and out for a corner.

Consensus seemed to be that it was a three goal wind. Marist played with it in the first half and lead 1-0 at half time. In the second half UHC lofted the ball a little more than Marist had done in the first half. The second goal was a reward for trying it. The ball was lofted forwward from the half way line one bounce and cleared the keeper.

Although the confusion around the free kick that lead to LH's first added a bit of excitement!
