Here is the first round

11 April
Seatoun              __    Upper Hutt City      __
Massey University    __    Waterside Karori     __
Bye                  __    Marist               __
Lower Hutt City      __    Miramar Rangers      __

Should be interesting. Pity Nth Wgtn have pulled the pin but I guess it reflects the depth at the moment.

Disappointing to have some petty behaviour from some circles leading up to the league. Harassing 15yr old girls because they want to leave your club is never good, and even CF have been disappointing in being over-opinionated in my opinion.

People whinging that Karori have poached players - when the fact is they haven't poached anyone.

Some clubs could rightly be disappointed that players they have nutured through the grades have now gone elsewhere

Can someone confirm the warfies result is correct?? Or is it a default win....?
I would have expected the super stars to smash Brooklyn
2 nil...dunno if I would have paid their win bonus for that

dissapointing there were no linespeople at Marist v LH today. What's the story CF?

Does this lack of officialdom occur on a frequent basis where the Premier Women's League teams are concerned, Mike, or was this a one-off instance?

As well, I've noticed Capital have been a bit lax in posting the women's results on a timely basis since the season started. It's now 5.30pm on Sunday - you wouldn't think it would 2.5 hours to post the Premier League scorelines, surely?

Cheers,

we'll have to wait and see if this trend continues, but one of the agreements CF and the clubs came to at the league formation, was that games would have three officials. I guess that the reason it isnt happening is that the refs/linos arent interested in doing Sunday games. To be fair, with the linesmen quality that I've experienced this year, its prob not a bad thing..

Marist beat LH 3 or 4 nil. Nothing particularly stunning about the game.

Are clubs happy to pay for 3 officals at Womens games, a reasonable referee should be able to keep up with play and be in position to call any offsides!

Good to see the league looking like its fairly tight. Seatoun just beat Miramar are Seatoun not as strong as last season or did Miramar just play badly last week. I don't watch these games so just see the results. Are Massey quite strong as this year as well?

Can CF show some commitment to top womens football by a)providing linespeople b)getting the web results up.

the rain hit for the first time this season today. Got absolutely soaked. Great performance by the Wharf to beat LH 12-0. They crumbled a bit and we never let up.
I heard Marist beat Seatoun 4-0.

Yup- watch UH games along with a hardy group of supporters. I counted 7 of us in the rain when they played Miramar 2 weeks ago.

Whats your opinion of the standard in Premier. My daughters team gained promotin to Div 1 this season and finds itself top of the table, seem to remember watching games from old Premier a few seasons ago and they were at a higher level.

Big difference. Watched a div 2 game on Sunday- some players were up to it but the gap between there and Prem is HUGE!!!!

manaspur are you talking about Tawa? And whos your daughter? Some players are very good technically and others just turn into soccer players as they are either fit, fast or naturally good at sport

Yes it is Tawa and my point is ,has the standard dropped as even in Premier there seems to be a huge range with Lower Hutt  and Miramar struggling.
The decision to expand the top grade to 8 was clearly wrong as Nth Wgtn dropped out prior to the season beginning and I don't believe any of the Div 1 teams would be able to step up, yet it was decided that it would be 2 up 2 down from memory.

but LH and Mar were in the top grade last year? Is an 8 team league setting your sights too high? I think not

It is too high if you get teams in a league that are clearly not up to it. Yes LH were in it last year , didn't win a game and certainly didn't play their way in, how did that happen, they just appeared last season, do they know people in high places.

The previous year i.e. 2007, Napier pulled out of the grade at the end of the season and as LH won Div 1 (I think) they could enter the grade if they thought they were up to it, which they did.
Miramar has been hit hard by defections this year- 5 or 6 players form last years team are no longer there. This would hurt any team

It does certainly seem to me that there are five good sides in Premier with Karori, Marist, Massey, Seatoun and Upper Hutt. The last two not doing as well this year. Miramar not doing as well either this year but still competing and Lower Hutt definately seem out of there depth, but managed to beat Miramar 4-1, how did that happen. As for Div 1 some of the football I have seen has been quite good at times and results look quite even so thats good.

UH have been hit hard with injuries. 3 seniors out in the first 2 games. No subs in the Miramar game but wil be right from now on

Due to Capital football duties, injuries and other players not wanting to play up Miramar played
with 8 players - they are still awaiting return of full squad.
Playing the women under Mens Premier rules a loss is better than a $2000.00 fine to your club.
