United unbeaten in 2nd round of the season.  Outstanding effort and well deserved from a lot of hard work and top coaching.

was classic watching them battle it out in the mud. Jackie v sandy brought the lols. Another match winner from the dutchie after toun made a hash of clearing a corner. Seatoun played very narrow and although their keeper didn't need to do anything they probably deserved to be second best today.

Mud very rarely makes anyone look good, more often a case of who makes the least mistakes wins. Sometimes a more satisfying win though

Fuck this stupid game

Will Wanganui get made to pay the hefty fine for their default in Central League or will the season that they have had and relegation be all they get?

Permalink Permalink

The Mud was unbelievable.  I believe it was a poor decision from Seatoun (coaching staff and management) to keep the game at Seatoun when anything less than a win would not be enough.  You could see the Seatoun players weren't impressed either...

they will have to pay it. Though if you were walking away from CL forever you could probably get away with it. However I guess if their men's team want to be considered for the play-off gig..

the Kelly Cup looks um interesting

I have just had a look at the draw.
So they give 1 team a bye in the first round, and now essentially 4 teams have a bye into the quarterfinals?!
And then they have added friendly games in so everyone gets their '18' I guess??

Surely when numbers are not conducive to a knockout draw - you use some form of seeding (or ballot) and you have most of the byes in the first round rather than the second??

Very strange.

Well done to the Upper Hutt Div 1 team for reaching the quarterfinals (at least) of the Kelly Cup unlike your Central League counterparts!

So who's everyone picks to qualify for next seasons central league?

1. Brooklyn

2. Palmerston Marist

3. Moturoa

Should be interesting to see outcome of these games.....

the Kelly family are none to happy with the draw either i hear.

in fact some consultation on the format and other things that happened previously with capital football seems to have been completely overlooked.

i will report back once i have it from the horses mouth exactly what has upset the family that gave there name to and who donated this trophy those many years ago...

worst Kelly Cup ever...... And another blunder from cap footy

Permalink Permalink
over 11 years ago · edited over 11 years ago · History

so the semi finals will be on the 31st and the final on the 7th september???

or are they going to play mid week games and make it more of a lollie scramble for players.

cup tied players mean a lot of teams will struggle with injury if mid week games get applied as one of our woman teams playing in the plate this week have found after losing 3-4 players last week in a friendly game that was not quite as friendly as they thought and now is struggling to find 11 fit players to get on the park.

there one bonus if they lose is they can drink and tie one on at the end of season function that the club management for some reason has selected to be on the 30th

I don't think the above is the issue.  Everyone who enters the Kelly Cup should know that it is a competition where they could draw any team from any league.  When it was first introduced any club could enter their 'top' team.  Clubs enter on their own accord - and this is one possibility - that they play a team above (or well above) their division.  I would suggest that next year the top 16 finishing Wgtn team be invited to take part in the Kelly Cup - if they decline then the next team and so forth.

A few things I do find odd:
- They seem to be doing a 'draw' for every single round??  Isn't the idea that you do a draw at the start - and teams can see who they might eventually play?  Or is this special to NZ Football Knockout Comps?  Chatham Cup seems the same??
- That 'friendly' games were scheduled between a CL team and a Div 3 team (result 22 zip?)  This is not productive for either team surely.

Wonder who will play in the semis?  CL vs CL and Div 1 vs Div 1 is my pick?!

On another note - anyone see and games today?

quit with your sensible comments

(however football always has draws for each round in ko cup comps)

Biggest problem with Kelly Cup. CF couldn't make up their mind if it was Single or Double Elim brackets with Executive Plate.

You can't drop the losers from first round of Kelly Cup into plate after first round and not the second.

Petone beat North Wellington 3-1.

In Executive Plate Upper Hutt beat BNU 8-1

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Maybe next year they'll run Kelly Cup with a true double elimination bracket with Executive plate as the losers bracket.

With the right amount of teams for said bracket and maybe seed the teams so you don't get a clusterfuck.

So people know what brackets are.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary work that just causes controversy - was it really 'drawn' that way etc etc.

Originally when I did the draws, the Kelly cup was for one team from every Womens club, the losers from the first round went into the executive plate.

Work for how many years with no problems or complaint’s, this method also had the total backing from the Kelly family

How things have changed.

Hi all,

Kelly Cup Final - venue and time next Sunday please?

And the promotion-relegation series - Moturoa v Brooklyn Northern United? First leg is where and what time next Sunday, please?

No reply from Capital :-(  and info required for my Sunday night review.

Thanks,

JR

When you find out let us know. BNU hasn't even been told when the game is and they have to organise a bus and accomodation for a whole team. I'm not quite sure how Capital Football thinks someone can organise a trip without knowing the key details.

Yep sounds like a bit of a shambles really. Wouldve thought that perhaps the cup final couldve been moved if the play off couldnt be, one would think the local Federation up that way would want to have given their representative the best chance of getting into WCL.

Anyone heard the lineup for the Wellington Women's Team?  The players were told it was going to be named on Friday - but I haven't seen/heard since then?
