A massive thanks RR for running the tipping comp again this season. Sorry for the times you had to hound me for my picks. You're a legend.

For North and South should be in alapbeactial order, top team from both leagues go up, bottom two teams go down, below winners of the three leagues up, next best record also goes up, also can't wait for next season.

thanks RR. Superbly run comp as usual

Awesome comp. Nice to think you could still have a 'good' weekend, even if the Nix didn't.

30 days until the new season starts, so I thought I would bump this thread to say I still have too much time on my hands and will be running it again this season.

I would like to get some feedback from people, is there anything you would like to see changed? Are you happy with the scoring system? Should I give people default tips incase they miss getting their tips in?

RE: a possible scoring change, I was pondering using a system that From The Stands AU did in their tipping comp a few seasons back. Rather than you tipping a margin, you tip a team and if they win by 3 goals you get 3 points. If they lose by 2, you get -2 points & 0 points for a draw. Would that be a change you would like to see? I could also alter it slightly and include a draw option, if you pick a draw you get 3 points and if its not a draw, you lose by how many goals the winning margin is.

I'm keen to be part of it again. Happy to give a new scoring a go, not sure about default tips for people that don't get their picks it. Would hate to get beaten just because someone else forgot to pick.

I think I prefer it to carry on as it was. Also, I vote for no default tips, if people forget, they should not get lucky!

My preference would be to stick with the old scoring system, reward people for accurate tips rather than rewarding them for tipping a team that managed to smash the other team in their game.

As someone who is constantly late to get my tips in, I'm on board with no default tips. If I forget despite all the reminders, I deserve 0 points!

How can we best provide you with a koha for all the hard work you do on this?

Just give him some good tips so he can finish in the top half of his competition!

I am in this season and all for the old scoring system and no defaults for missing picks

The thing I don't like about that suggested From The Stands AU scoring system is it seems to reduce the incentive to pick underdogs. Last season for example, I may on one particular week think a team had a decent chance of scraping a win vs Sydney, but still a chance that Sydney win by a few, as they were often doing. Going for the upset would probably only gain me one point, but I'd be risking going down big time. Ok, that would be my fault as I'd clearly made a bad call, but weighing the points system to favour going for the favourites even more than people are going to naturally will likely mean less variety in predictions which would make the comp not as colourful.

Is there an easy way to reward/weight accurate tips, in addition to just the head to head results?  Or just too complicated?

Originally I used the betting odds but unless you match tips that rules out any chance of a draw normally & at Xmas time, it would be rather easy to forget to take note of them.

I'll just keep the status quo I guess. I won't need to change the spreadsheet at least.

I'm happy with status quo, but if you're looking for scoring options:

I was in a similar comp where we had to pick the scores.

You got 5pts for the correct score; 3pts for the correct margin, but wrong score; 2 points for picking the correct winner. In the case of draws, you got 5 or 3 for a correct pick.

E.g. My tip: Nix 4-0 Sydney

Nix win 4-0 = 5 points

Nix win by 4 goals (5-1, 6-2...) = 3 pts

Nix win by any other margin = 2pts

Nix lose/draw = 0

My tip Nix 1-1 Sydney

1-1 = 5pts

0-0, 2-2, any other draw = 3pts

Any other outcome = 0
