Wellington council doesn't make any money from the stadium, it's an independent trust and any extra cash go to paying it's massive debts.

The fact that Over 25 years of operation, sky stadium still has pretty much the same debt level as when it opened shows just how bad the economics of stadiums is.

For a massive all purpose stadium. 
A smaller 10-20k rectangle job, probably in an industrial area with lots of parking and public transport might have better economics.
