An external audit of the state government’s controversial $14.5 million Football in Schools program has found the Macarthur Bulls A-League franchise overstated staff office costs by $87,000 and charged taxpayers for IT, printing and insurance without clear justification.

The probe by public accounting firm Grant Thornton also found the Western Sydney Wanderers – a neighbouring club that received $6.5 million over four years – was non-compliant with parts of the funding agreement, including being unable to validate attendance at football camps.

The Football in Schools scheme came under fire after an investigation by the Herald highlighted issues, including that Macarthur FC, based in Sydney’s south-west, claimed nearly 43 per cent of the $2 million yearly funding to underwrite head office costs.

Macarthur FC has submitted plans to the NSW Planning Portal for a combined high school and childcare centre at 186 Cawdor Road, Cawdor – close to Camden township. The proposal covers a Year 7 to Year 12 school with capacity for 1,200 students, as well as a childcare centre catering to 120 children.

Macarthur also looking towards going down the Charter School route to fund the club?

With WU going under could the same happen to Macarthur? Same cloth as Western, expansion team in cities that didn't need more teams, in areas that were still developing, not much fan presence etc. (Only WU didn't have as many scandals)

Imagine that. Surely that would accelerate Christchurch/Canberra.

A club source has revealed that both of the preferred candidates are Australian coaches.
One is currently coaching in the NPL, and the other is an overseas-based assistant.
