Double edged sword though, if he didn't miss, then it could have gone a fair way to banishing some of the demons from november 14, so maybe he thought he was finally up to it.

Felt sorry for the guy. He looked absolutely devastated when he missed; seemed like it brought all the demons back from missing the pen against us. Have to remember that it wasn't *just* that it lost them the game - after that his cousin got shot in the head, he was threatened with his life etc and had to flee his own country. Not that the missed pen was the only reason for all that but it can't of helped.valeo2012-03-03 01:05:20

I can mostly agree with that after your edit. Yes, the reasons for him leaving Bahrain were political, not to do with missing the penalty.
 
Though I daresay Bahrainis didn't exactly welcome him home with open arms.
