the more im seeing of Porter, im kinda glad we didnt get him

If a team with big names started well to the season and then goes to custard, then you have to question the coach's strategy and methods. Porter may have been a better player under Ricki. However GCU is now under pressure with injuries and players getting out of form. They had to call up 4 or 5 of their youth players.AllWhitebelievr2009-11-29 02:20:33

Great night, awesome to hear the "North/East/South/West end" chant, first time since the 4-0 over the Knights.

Came home from town and watched the 2am replay of MV v GCU - great game.  Anyone spot the attendance figure? Didn't see any good wide shots of the crowd, but they sounded very...numerous   Good stuff.

Yep, I was there at that game against the Knights too. Funnily enough I was 'west' both times.

I thought they over did it a bit and by the end everyone was getting sick of the chant, though Was funny how the first time it was done Kruse pretty much scored straight away.

Great atmosphere all round except for the last 10-15 mins where it died down a bit because it was such a thrashing.

Kinda gives a taste of what the new stadium will be like..

It looked like the corners were kind of pushed back a bit. I spent the whole game trying to work out if the camera angle had changed or something like that! Was in the pub with music on so couldn't hear any commentary that might've mentioned it.

Did anyone see Brockie's tumble into the advertising boards btw? My and my bro were watching it and replayed it about 5 times. Was hilarious. He stops and then does some kind of Billy Elliot-esque pirouette before smacking into the boards.

Yeah, he had a trial here last pre-season (2008). Was absolutely awful and sent packing after a couple of weeks.

Langerac. Very suspect temperament. Let's get stuck into him next week.

Got a pre-game hug from Muscat and extravagant high fives for a few regulation saves. When I think about the times I've seen Muscat yelling at Moss this suggests to me that Moss is not that popular, and he may struggle to get back into the first team.
I have noticed that as well. Vargas being particularly harsh on Moss. Likewise commentators seemed to find Moss at fault for everything. On the other hand Langerac had a stupendously bad flap last week, got away with. And commentators were almost apologetic. Strange.

Melbourne fan here and yes I also consider Moss is being treated harshly even by the fans. During the pre match warmup where goalkeepers try to block the shots from the forwards, everytime Moss conceded the fans cheer but they did the opposite when Langerak was in goals and saved the shots despite conceding more during the warmup.

Anyway nice to be joining here. I always find Wellington Phoenix likeable.

Because he has been horrible for them and he isn't an Aussie so it makes him the easy scapegoat..pretty simple

1-0 penalty Jest.  Probably was a penalty, but I don't know that the defender did all that much wrong.

Wonder if Colvinator put that Sheppard on Jests/Nix double.  Would be feeling positive at the mo if he did.  Jets looking surprsingly good here.

I'm a Moss supporter myself since of all the goals we conceded under him I consider very few were from his fault and more of our sh*tty defence this season (especially Vargas). There are some reasons really.

First is the changing of the goalkeepers. Melbourne still remembers the good times with Theo even though at Norwich he suffered that nightmare debut, didn't do really well in the reserves, and even failing to catch the bus. Add in the NZ factor as well.

Second is the number of goals conceded though it's unfair to blame Moss since most of the goals have been dodgy defences and the ocassional deflections.

The heavy defeats at home made it clear that there has to be a fall guy and he's the unfortunate victim. Muscat is basically untouchable as captain, Leijer performed well in defence, Vargas for me is the one who should have been dropped but he's one of the old boys so the new guy has to take the fall, and keepers are really in the spotlight when they concede anyway despite the horrendous defensive duties. Moss had his head down conceding the fourth goal from Mariners but the damage was done by the people in front of him.

There are some parts that I personally dislike from our fans and the treatment of Moss is one of them. Seriously c**t act to chant the former goalkeeper's name when our own keeper is let down by his teammates. They defended Theoklitos even though in his Norwich game something similar to Moss happened to him (and it's at one game with more errors than Moss). Still I hope Moss to bounce back from this.

Bridges is class - we're lucky the only off game he's had this season was against us

Culina showed some balls this game playing 3-4-3 and it's worked for him.
