Looks a great signing.

I'm willing to give our strikers a break... last year we weren't in half the games we played so what did we expect them to do?

Judging by our potential midfield trio (thinking mcG may play a little wider) we have some real quality coming through and as a result our strikers should get better opportunities to show their worth.

Our problem last year wasn't a lack of a goal scorer, it was a lack of a midfield. When Riera played, we won and we scored plenty.

Whats even better is exciting young players like Gorrin and this Dutch lad are looking at us a viable option.

I expect both to start, get noticed and sign on overseas giving us massive pay days eventually.

but we've lost our two top scorers from last season, one of who was also our top assister, and they were also our two best players at holding the ball up while our other attackers made runs into space

yeah but our midfield was crap last year and provided little service in attack, they also held the ball up usually because they were too slow to outrun the defenders after beating them.

Wow, that was kind of unexpected. Love that Ernie is looking outside of the box for young players with pedigree though, as opposed to waiting till the last few weeks to sign some random who'd come over for a trial (e.g. Toto, Sanchez), another "promising" Aussie state league player (e.g. Downey, Tsattalios), or someone who'd played one good game against us preseason (Chen, Totori).

Maybe Kenny can play a more forward role this year? Proven he can score, and hes quite quick. Hoping Brockie gets back to his best with some good solid support playing behind him

Yeah sorry I might be coming over a bit negative. I just think we have an unbalanced looking squad with lots of wingers and central midfielders and no real out-and-out strikers. Burns looked alright centrally and Krishna, Kenny and Brockie could all potentially score a few but it's a lightweight looking forward line.

Look our midfield was crap last year and now it looks immensely better. I think that will help the likes of Brockie, Boyd, Kenny and Krishna score goals.

I think it will as well.  Probably enough to cover th loss of Huysegems scoring..  So that should see us avoid the wooden spoon late in the season.

Not sure that it is a loss, its an opportunity for someone else to score 10 goals in 26 games. (wasn't enamored with Stein)

Where is Stein trialing, signed or likely to appear?

Given how we fell apart when Riera was injured this is more crucial than an import striker, in my humble opinion

yeah though you could say since losing waffles, a striker became more immediately important.

I'm on the fence (for once).

Another interesting signing.

Would've preferred if he was a striker, but hey!

And while I do agree that it's important we have a Riera replacement - at least we have '1' Riera. We have '0' capable strikers.

Replacing Stein and Carlos' output isn't going to be possible with this squad, I think. Lets hope we defend well.

Riera getting injured and our backline changing every game (due to injuries/suspensions) were our reasons for being pants.

I think we have some depth in both areas now, but a John Irvine would be good (or a striker).

Especially seeing as Alex appears to be capable of playing the Riera role if need be

I thought a John Irvine was some sort of cockney rhyming slang but then thought again...

True but I think a midfield with Gorrin and McGlinchey would be more able to cover the loss of Riera.

Everything this year is pointing to us not playing with a traditional striker. Quick Wingers coming infield with a Burns playing slightly  deeper.  I am not sure a Stein type player would fit with how we have been playing so far this year.

I really want someone to collar Ernie and say Y NO STRYKER?! I trust Ernie, I just want to know what the plan is.

But certainly we didn't seem too lack on Wednesday night.

So how do we line up now for next season?

Fenton    Sigmund   Durante    Muscat

                   Reira     Bonevacia

                          Gorrin

    Cunningham                 McGlinchey

                           Burns

With Krisnha, Brockie and Boyd all able to come off the bench we have plenty of depth in the front 3rd.

Huysegems wasn't an out-and-out striker before he came to us either. Previously played as a winger with a winger's strike rate to show for it.

It's not an ideal situation but I'm hopeful that Ernie can get the same sort of production out of Burns or Cunningham or Brockie (and 2 out of 3 of those scoring 10+ would see us looking pretty good).

Oh how I think we are going to miss Stein this year, He would have fitted in quite well with all the midfielders we have.

Not sure I like the 4-2-4 formation, I would rather see us play with a 5 man midfield and a sole not-a-striker up front
