Certainly didn't tear up the paddock when I saw him play at Napier.

Andy Bevan must be about done with University soon, maybe worth a look?

Always thought he was quality.

Taken from Contracted Players thread:

3 spots left assuming JBS signs his deal. Burfoot, Payne & an attacker maybe?

I dont think Payne will be getting picked up by TFC, as nothing has happened yet and he is back in Blackburn now. We should have a decent amount of cap available, so we could aim for a high profile Aussie striker (McDonald? Kennedy?). I would like to keep Iffy but I think its more likely he will be an injury replacement option.

Kennedy will still have better options left in Japan where he excelled at Nagoya. He might be too slow for us by now, even if the money was right (and I doubt it would be).
McDonald has his best scoring years behind him - he wisely decided to continue in the UK rather than playing his final years at home in front of less-than-appreciative A-League fans.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

My South Melbourne firend reckons Musa and Eager were best on the park in the weekend.

Nice to hear but with 4 spots left, I dont think we have room for either of them. This is also where not having a NYL hurts, we could have contracted our project players (Rufer & Ridenton) outside the 23 man roster which frees up space for squad players.

It seems like James Musa has really stepped up a notch since his time with the Phoenix. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back, even if it's not this year.

He is a superb player. He would love it here:

Update:

On 24 April 2014, Olić signed a new two-year deal with VFL Wolfsburg.

Much cheaper too I would guess.

Certainly drums beating for Eager here huh?
Still wouldn't hurt to try a few NZ players from outside Auckland City...
Thought Musa was good at the Olypmics...He'd be better than Adams you'd have to think...

Much cheaper too I would guess.

Someone should have told the club that before they extended Lia's contract

Disagree. Expect another A-League club to pick him up in the next season or so

Seriously? I didn't think he particularly stood out in the ASB Prem this past season.

Both were definitely brilliant and have gotten us cleansheets in our last 3 games. both of their passing ability is exceptional and their positioning is brilliant as well.  Musa got a very good assist against Hume 3 weeks ago, making a run down the left with the ball and passing it for the player to score.  definitely very impressed with these 2, could definitely see Eagar playing A League.

I love it when people on here think they have all of this knowledge on an outstanding player and assume Ernie Merrick has never heard of him.

What about picking up Jamie Doris?

20 year old kiwi midfielder, formerly at Hibernian in Scotland.

Has played for NZ under 20s.

Is he even playing football still?

Played for Berwick Rangers reserves in u-21 reserve league of Scottish League 2 (fourth tier) last season (see last post):

https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/kiwi-players-overseas/topics/jamie-doris-hibernian-u19

But not listed as a player there this season:

http://www.berwickrangersfc.co.uk/f-reserves/res-team-profiles.html

Could find no info on his current whereabouts. Never made the first team at Berwick in the Scottish fourth tier, so probably not good enough for the Phoenix and at age 21 I'd guess he's  probably considering options outside of pro football.

Lets be honest here, Ernie Merrick must know a lot about Chris James, Aaron Clapham, Michael Eagar etc. I think we can safely assume every New Zealand football player on the edge of professional football (or in Chris James' case is a current All White) is well known to the club.

The real questions should be why does he not think they're Wellington Phoenix material, and why are Vince Lia and Manny Muscat better options?

Is it possible for anyone to ask? Would he say it on the pod? Does it take a Dom Post/NZ Herald/APN reporter to ask?

Will be interesting to see what sort of final shape the squad is in by the time the English visitors arrive in town in late July. Will the final squad be pretty well finalised by then?  Or will Newcastle and West ham face a fair few trailists?

Ernie has stated be wants the squad completed by the time preseason starts.

Hernandez and Brockie notable frontline players missing from the photo advertising memberships for next season, possibly being shopped around - I reckon Ernie/Welnix wouldn't mind pocketing a bit of cash for both.

Notable absentees also include Fenton, Riera and Krishna.

I know I should know this but who is the player next to Moss? He worries me being in this photo over a Riera or Fenton, who are somewhat more photogenic
