I'd love to see a study that shows the efficacy of strapping. (and not just as a placebo effect) My research shows there is no measurable benefit, aside from (perhaps) reassurnace factor.

Or similar for the coloured tape that was all the rage a couple of seasons ago. I've read published paper's that show no significant effect.

I wonder what precautions Fenton takes in things like strapping his shoulders etc? You'd think that with him damaging them so often and so close together, it puts his pro career in doubt. Unless he can play with them strapped up and protected, he is too much of a risk at pro level I'd think.

Saw a pic from the match and there was definitely some sort of protective gear on his shoulder.

If I were a savvy centre forward in this league, I would run at him and engage him in shoulder to shoulder contact. He is slight, has dodgy shoulders so he either has to risk an injury, bounce off me or not engage me.

He really needs to get this sorted because if he is going to be a defender/wingback, then he cannot avoid physical contact. Considering he is aged 20 or less, he is in danger of losing a career if he does not take it seriously (not that I am accusing him of not taking it seriously)

I thought he'd had both shoulders fixed surgically and had several months of rehab.

What else can he do?

Ummm, except: born 3 April 1993 - so he's 22 and 4 (narly 5) months...

Agree with what you are saying re. people looking to engage him physically though.

Louis Ferenc Puskas Fenton (born 3 April 1993). Aged 22; but is your reference to age about having an established pro career by a certain age? Can happen after 22.

Sadly unless he gets it sorted he is going to be found out as i cant imagine opposition teams taking it lightly on him.Club should have a chat to Benji he had chronic problems in his early years in the NRL but seems to have it sorted after about 3/4 rounds of surgery. His shoulders would be getting much bigger hits than Fenton is getting.

Ah my bad. For some reason I thought he played in the recent under 20s. Apologies.

The age reference was more that he is still young and his career has only just started. If he is not careful, it could be over before it really kicks off. If he is 22, then he reasonable has another 12 years left but if he does not get his shoulders sorted, then it wont be much longer.

I would think the Phoenix would want to have a chat with Benji Marshall and the guy that patched him up. He had glass shoulders too but they finally came right.

Edit: Just noticed Ballane beat me to it!

Photomac got a pic.  There is definitely some strapping on his left shoulder, but couldn't see the right

Looks like it is going to be another season for the true fans. Missing goals at one end and leaking them at the other - it is ironic in a system that usually looks like 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 that the Player of The Day (1) will have to be Moss - frequently - if the Phoenix are to get into the playoffs this year. Goodluck Phoenix - signing a quality CB would be as valuable as contracting an onion bag bulger.

We are still closer to the start of the preseason than we are to the start of the A-League. There's really no need for panic stations at all.

While I am concerned about lack of depth (defensively especially - doubtful Dura and Siggy can do what they did last year again) there is still a long way to go till the real thing - as patrick says, no need to panic yet.

I agree about Siggy and Dura, but I feel like the tweak to 3 at the back will actually help Siggy and Dura out. They won't need to do as much running to cover space, so I think it suits them having Manny/Vinniesta around to help them out.

The trouble is always going to be injuries though, although I haven't seen anything from the young kids to suggest that they can't make the step up.

We all feel the same way about Boxall leaving though.

Smithy now has a new gig as Football Analyst on Piney's Saturday morning show.

5-1 v Mel City. "You've always been a dreamer, spent your life running round, and it's so hard to take, can't seem to settle down". No Moss, no win. No one's panicking, just reality.

He's the Yellow Fever spokesman according to the Taranaki Daily Times...

My favourite media quote was from Smithy was back when the All Whites played warm-up games before the 2010 World Cup.

He said that at 3am, all along his street, lights were being switched on as people got up for the game.

Great imagery, making football sound exciting and inclusive ... such a fantastic job he's done for the Fever and football all this time ...
