Talk last night was an U-20, 2 forwards and a centre back with a forward being an import is the plan.  Options being looked at but sauces keeping very tight lipped.

So no fullbacks? i.e. sticking with Fenton/Manny/Doyle.

Interesting last night was they looked to be playing 3 at times with Manny in the back 3 and Doyle and Gulley wing backing.

Not sure how I feel about Manny as one of the 3 CB to be honest. But then again, he is pretty versatile, so who knows.

As they did in Fiji.

I don't think they were playing 3 CBs though.

They were playing "3 at the back" with Siggy on the right, Durra in the middle, and Manny on the left.

When the opponents pushed down their left (our right), Siggy moved to be the second CB next to Durra and Gulley tracked back to RB, and there were 4 at the back. Unless Siggy could field it on his own, in which case he would and we'd continue.

When the opponents pushed down their right (our left), Manny moved to be the second CB next to Durra and Doyle tracked back to LB, and there were 4 at the back. Unless Manny could field it on his own, in which case he would and we'd continue.

Th result of which was Manny was not playing as a CB except in exceptiuonal (rare) covering circumstances.

The only time we had 3 CBs was if the opponents were pressing down both wings simultaneously - in which case both Gulley and Doyle tracked back and both Siggy and Manny shuffled inwards.

How about that Wynne chap? He needs to stay in NZ until he's 23 so Phoenix would be a good option!

Has a kiwi passport, so wouldn't count as an import for Nix, right?

If Doyle is going to be our first choice LB this season then Wynne would be good addition to cover him. We know he wouldn't get called up for AWs duty for a start

He might struggle to adapt to a professional environment since it doesn't look like he's had much exposure to one in his last team.

After all this, he was quite anonymous in PNG and didn't really catch my eye in the U20's.

Are we thinking Blake will pick up the U20 slot? He's versatile, could cover wingback if we are playing 3 at the back

I think McGarry is more likely to get that spot based on what I've seen of the two.

He's an everything.

Started the ASB Prem season as left back, moved to DM then for the Winter side he's been playing at AM or up front or wide in a front 3.  I think he's leading goal scorer by some margin.

Suspect he can probably keep as well.

Wee-Nix Saturday at Newtown vs Miramar ressies.  You can all come and watch them

2:30 Newtown 1.    We're going to laugh at Adam and Dave playing on Martin Luckie beforehand as well (weather dependent)

Oranje Masty.  Phoenix away kit though.  Mar ressies are okay with a few of the elder statesman of Welly football so they play good football.

I reckon Blake will get the first team roster spot and McGarry one of the 2 remaining WeeNix contracts.

Blake has been better than most in the ASB Prem games that I have seen. I'd say more deserving at this stage than McGarry as well (don't get me wrong, big fan of the kid and I'm an ex-Mosgiel AFC guy).

One thing in McGarry's favour is that we are short on genuine left sided players. We have more depth with Right sided players (more Blake's lot).

I've really been impressed by Blake, haven't seen McGarry, so hope you are a good judge

Newtown will be okay. Stand and clubbies but no one at the zoo due to a shark day so easy to park.
