Gai Assulin looks to have an injury history. I know thats not a big deal when you look at Nathan Burns but if teams are wary of signing him because of that, then thats something to consider.

At 24, when you consider where he has been, then I suspect injury(s) could be an issue.

I think most players who have decent ability but couldn't make it in Europe would have some sort of injury (or personality) problem. We have to take that risk, really.

Looks like he's even less than a goal scorer than Sarpong :D

Really hope we hear some news today so this thread doesn't go through another round of semantic arguments.

Are they semantic arguments or healthy discussions about semantics?

Doesn't appear to matter as he has signed RCD Mallorca on the 15th August apparently.

On one hand, he used to play for Racing Santander so we can share some hilarious Ahsan Ali Syed jokes with him.

On the other hand... he's an Israeli rep, which means he brings with him a whole heap of political crap. Dude has a right to play football, but he'll face some tough questions about why Israel shouldn't be kicked out of FIFA for systematically trying to hobble the Palestine team, etc.

Why would he have to answer those questions? NZ are barely involved in any Palestine/Israeli kerfuffle and he's a f*cking footballer, not a diplomat. Not to mention the fact he's only played one game for the national team.

This, along with the comments on Sarpong being religious, get me pretty annoyed tbh. Just because a player is from a certain country or has certain religious beliefs does not mean they will have trouble settling in or getting on with the rest of the team.

If an American footballer came here would you question him about the US invading Iraq/every other country?

If a player from South Africa came here would you question him about recent violence towards immigrants in his country?

The main difference with, say, Alex Smith, is that every Israeli adult citizen is drafted into the army and therefore is partly responsible for the country's occupation and foreign policies. Also, the Palestinians have called for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions of Israel until they adhere to UN resolutions.

There is a reason why we don't play Israel in the Oceania qualifiers any more, you know.

Because Isreal has compulsary militairy service doesn't mean that Palastein is the individuals fault.

Russia has compulsary conscription but if I talk to someone from Russia I don't hold it against them individually about issues in the Caucasus and around Ukraine.

But someone DOES play them in World Cup qualifiers - so I can't quite see your point.

Yeah, sort of agree with the BDS movement.

The people who protest this are in the most sincere and have been doing this for a good proportion of their lives. I think they are misguided, probably, though I haven't really thought about it at length.

Did Benayoun get much in the way of protest in his career?

In any case, can see there are serious points on both sides, and all in all we are very lucky to have been born in New Zealand, not just because we don't have to worry about eligibility issues!

a) Hack computers of Welnix

b) Hack computer of Welnix's preferred medical doctor

c) Hook a biometric passport scanner at the border up to Transfermarkt

d) Pursue a political solution to every major global conflict through inane discussion and personal insult while we wait another 3 weeks for Welnix to say something............
