Pretty sure Jon Toogood has always been based here with the rest of the band in Melbourne, his kids are here, his ex wife is here, his house is here, and his other band, the adults, is a bunch of Wellingtonians.  Albeit he probably spends half his time in Melbourne and the other half in Wellington it's pretty clear that Wellington is his home. 

Also a Wellington band playing in Australia is pretty much spot on as far as metaphors go.

Reguardless, it's a song about coming home to Wellington and we've got a team who spends far too much time on the road, it's also considered a NZ classic but isn't claimed by Rugby or played in bars in Hamilton.
