Just saying it would be a heck of a battle to build a stadium that's going to have 8 - 10k people thronging to it every second week when Cricket NZ / the Wellington stadium trust can't even get lights in for a handful of day night cricket matches a year.

And yes NIMBYs have ruined a lot of things, like when an apartment block was built next to the Matterhorn in the late 90s and complained about the noise, so it had to stop being a great live venue (which opened in the 60s) and instead became a restaurant. Also those apartment owners in Thorndon that sued the cathedral because the bells were annoying.
