those that don't wanna go, don't. SIMPLE. If you aren't excited about Beckham/the Galaxy coming, fine, but what's the point of killing other people's buzzes?

Hey Gooner howz it going? I never thought I'd see the day a Gooner fan supported Becks unless it was in an England shirt.

That's just it - I'm not a fan of Beckham. But the fact is, his presence will bring along a lot of people and will raise the profile of the sport in this country.

And as someone above me said, when you look at what the Council normally waste their money on, this has to be one of the better ideas I've seen (notwithstanding the fact that Terry fronted the vast majority of the costs himself).

At the end of the day, I'll be there to see the Phoenix win.

yeah i'm definitely not a Beckham fan, but COME ON the dude played for England and some people love him. If the ring o' flames is full to the brim it's awesome for Welly and footers exposure, even if half the crowd is 15 yr old girls creaming themselves

VERYvalid points.  I wonder if Terry will get 10 minutes with Becks like that fella who paid 12,000 $$$ for 10 Minutes with Elton John??

I hardly think it's a waste of money. That money would be spent on some kind of event, that's the entire reason it's there. I'm just glad it's an event I can get into. There's no difference between the council marketing this match and the council marketing the Wearable Arts stuff, except that Football is way better!

I still find it completely idiotic that people are upset that the council is spending the money set aside to promote large events is being spent on promoting a large event. Anyone who complains about this needs to pick up a brain and a newspaper. As for the transparency issue, we'll find out soon enough. 40% of Stadium Capacity x $20 x Any tax the council gets from selling these tickets (per ticket) = The amount of money the council needs to break even.

After losing the V8's to Hamilton we needed a good comeback so maybe a game against a famous team might be the order of the day - Barca, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, QPR, Real Madrid, International, Santos, Arsenal, Celtic, West Ham to name a few??

yeah good point...if 30000 go to see anything then it's popularity pretty much justifies it's conception (not that that's a given, of course). That's a lot of people for a small city and a good percentage considering the high ticket prices. Why is it different to the WOW? um, well some people don't care about seeing Beckham - but some people don't care about seeing the WOW so what's the difference?

Another possible positive spin here is if the crowd is a sell out, that sets a president for hosting biggish football games here. Usually the All Whites have to travel to play friendlies with the likes of Brazil, and Wales etc. Now if we pull of a good economic result other international teams might start to think it could be worthwhile having a friendly here as well as Austrailia if they heading downunder. Something to think about. A full international squad from Europe would be full of top class players.

I had never been to a football game before i went to the phoenix, and i had never had any interest in the game either.  I was dragged along to the first game against Melbourne Victory and intend to go to every game i can this season.

If having David Beckham to the game will give others the chance to develop enthusiasm for the game that can only be a good thing for the phoenix, and wellington

First, I am not a David Beckham and never will be for a number of reasons. Still the guy has represented his country 90 times, so there must be something there. Even if Steve McLaren is there in charge. (Why, I do not know or for that matter understand, but that is a discussion for another time) So, for the game. to see him play against the Phoenix, I will be there for sure. The main reason is, how many times does someone like come here. As for the moaners, do us a favour and don't come to the game, its your lose. Oh and one other thing; Arsenal to win the League!!!!!!! easily!!!!!!!

Errr that was my attempt at being able to laugh at myself. QPR used to be Londons top club but no longer. We're crap last season and we're crap this season but I'll still be a QPR fan, no jumping ship or glory hunting for me!
