I'll be extremely pissed off if the Phoenix miss out on the Semi-Finals of the A-League because of a gimmick match. We have 10 home matches in a season to attract "New" fans to watch the Phoenix so I really do see the need to put players and a possible Top 4 finish at risk all so that ZM listeners get the opportunity to win tickets to watch a metrosexual and his stick insect wife swan into town!!!

I see from the Herald today that Terry is worth 100 million. Perhaps he wants to spend some of that so he can hang out with Becks for a while.

Now...I may be looking at this the wrong way, BUT....if NZF have anything to do with it...It surely will not happen..... So in an OPEN PLEA....Please NZF, stay the f**K away from all this, and let the Phoenix Management handle it.

Seatter and the board will cock it up otherwise!

The fee, if the game went ahead, would surely go to the Galaxy and not Beckham. He'd get whatever his usual contracted appearance type amount is from the Galaxy, but Terry's negotiation is with LA and not Beckham. Right?

This got the Phoenix airtime on TV3. Great.

If Terry pulls it off and the Galaxy come play in Wellington with Beckham in their team, then providing Terry is willing to pay it and is not putting the Phoenix in financial risk then great. It'll get people along who are not normally going to go and some might stick around for more Phoenix games. Most won't, but some will.

Providing the money is not coming off of the Phoenix bottom line (i.e. Terry is putting the extra cash in to meet the cost) and jeopardising the financial stability of the club, I'm all for it.

I'm a jaffa but I hope if the game goes ahead its played down in Welly.

It should be about raising the profile of football in this country but more importantly getting people along to watch the Phoenix. If Westpac is a sellout and the fans get to see a good game, then I'm sure the Nix will attract a lot more punters to their A-League games.

If the rugby world cup dosnt go so well then maybe beckham could be a selling point 4 kiwis 2 start getting into football more than rugby. haha probly will never happen but who knows, any player of his class an fame coming to nz can only be a good thing i think.imagine how stoked the players would be

I know the main reason this game will be played (if it goes ahead) is because of Beckham, but he is not the only good player in the team. They have Landon Donavan, a brilliant striker, and Abel Xavier, a mint defender with mint hair, who used to play for Portugal (and almost scored in golden goal of the Euro 2000 semi-final against France - I was furious when Barthez saved it - that was before I started supporting France though).

Agreed - I'm a Aucklander too. If the game goes ahead if belongs in Phoennix City.

It was strange, came out of nowhere on the clip, "Meanwhile Eden park - who have not been approached are said to be interested in hosting the game!"

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

The Eden Park quip was , my guess, "journalese".
Just had a call from the Auckland part of my extended family saying "if that Galaxy game goes ahead we're on the way down". The general tenor is that we all want to in a full house at a football match in Wellington. This kind of drawcard will get that!

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Awesome to see becks come but i still think the money could be put towards something better for nz football. But id love to see him play. One of the best players eva. And dont say big call caz he was. Still good but only reason gone to america to become a film star. Give it 2 years of football, and hel start in a film with tom cruise and posh and katie holmes being lesbians. Cruel intentions 5.

I think youve made your point, its getting boring now. You dont like David Beckham, we get it.
Here's a solution to your problem.... DONT GO.
Let the vast majority of football lovers enjoy the experience of seeing the cake tin and the Phoenix sell out, the general profile of the sport lifted, even if it is for a short time and Football, not Rugby, dominate the media pages of this Rugby mad country.

Every YF fan is worth 10 normal fans. Having the game in Wellington will reward the loyal supporters and increase the numbers. It's a no-brainer even if Eden Park does have connections at TV3. Having a full house would be good too. It's always nice to have precedents.

He also gave away the penalty in extra time of that game which sent France through to the final. I remember him chasing the ref around and yelling at him. An absolute munter, but decent entertainment value.

I was so annoyed about that penalty, he couldn't really move his hand out of the way of the ball, and it's not like the shot was going in. There was also some dispute as to whether or not the ball was still in the field of play.

Zidane smacked it in without any problems though...another of Portugal's wasted chances to win a major trophy.

In the paper today, apparently to be confirmed later on this week, game with LA Galaxy in Wellington on December 2nd

My friend in New York comments...

"Right... because LA doesn't have enough air travel already. Here's their game schedule

28/7: in LA
31/7: at Dallas
5/8: at Toronto
8/8: at DC
12/8: at New England (suburban Boston)
15/8: in LA
18/8: at NY
23/8: in LA
26/8: at Colorado (suburban Denver)
1/9: in LA
They actually have four straight games in LA amazingly
19/9: at Salt Lake City
23/9: in LA
27/9: at Kansas City (Missouri)
30/9: at Columbus (Ohio)
3/10: at Vancouver (friendly)
7/10: at Houston
10/10: at Minnesota (Minneapolis)(friendly)
13/10: in LA
18/10: in LA
21/10: at Chicago

If they manage to make the playoffs, a long shot, they will play on 27/10 in LA and then 4/11 probably in either New England or Texas.

If my some miracle (and I mean MIRACLE), they make MLS Cup final, that will be on 18/11 in Washington, DC. Then 02/12 in Wellington.

Try to chart this on a map. This is mind boggling... if not mind numbing
."

Then in between there's the game/s in Australia...

We're talking post season.  They'll play the 18th in the final (should they make it) athen Sydney will be 9 or 10 days later and here 5 days later.

Two games in 15 days ?  They need to harden up.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix are expected to call a press conference later this week to confirm David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy will play in Wellington on December 2, with a deal believed to be all but secured.

Love how the have a team, no stadium and two years to make it all happen - and they will!

In Rome we've been trying to get consent for a new purpose built stadium for about 6 years and we're still a long way off. Grrr
