LOL..harping on again

Put yourself in Bills shoes...or boots in this case. Where would you rather be?  In PNG getting the crap kicked out of you in a Oceania U23 tournament or back in your professional club preparing to play Fenebache, Betis and Juventus

What do you mean by "he'll be fine"? Do you think a junior player can miss a fair chunk of preseason at a pro club and it not have a negative impact?       Do you think he can fly in later in July and go straight into the match day squad?  You obviously don't know much about how pro football works in Europe.

My original point still stands....Bill should be in Marseille not PNG

But Tuiloma had a choice about whether he played in these qualifiers. Which suggests he'd rather be in PNG getting the crap kicked out of him (though he may be regretting it now after today's shambles).

Pleased to help out. It helps that I live just down the road from Marseille.

OM are starting their preseason games this weekend. Nearly all the games will be broadcast so people in NZ should be able to pick them up on the Net.

At the moment OM have only 3 central midfielders and Bills one of them(he's also match fit). So he should get plenty of action off the bench preseason. There are some tasty opposition as well . Fenebache and of course Champions league finalists Juventus on the 1st August??? Be amazing to see a lad from Birkenhead get game time against Juventus

Bill hasn't taken the normal stand down break after playing internationals. He has gone straight from PNG to Marseille and has been named in the squad of 21 for OM's first preseason game.

They are flying to Tunisia to the coastal city of Sousse. This is where the terrible terrorist attack occured a few weeks ago and 29 mainly British tourists were killed. Marseille is playing the local club in a show of solidarity to the city and the country . The Tunisian Prime Minister will be there apparently. Security is a huge issue and I suspect half the Tunisian army will be there on guard. There will be quite a big croud, they had already sold 20,000 tickets last week.

Bill is named as one of the three central mids...so he he will almost certainly get game time. Its high summer at the moment and temperatures have been hitting mid 40's...so there will be lots of player rotation.

The game is on at 9pm France time Saturday 18th. NZ is 10 hours ahead of France so that makes it 7 am Sunday in NZ for any of you insomniacs. The game is being broadcast live so there should be a stream somewhere.

Still no news of him re-signing...but it will be just a formality....maybe Bill is holding out for a more money,,,LOL

So you worried for nothing then?

Today Bill signed a full pro contract with Olympic Marseille. The contract is for three years.

Great news for Bill. His career is well set now. He needs to work on his game and get regular first team play. There is talk of a possible loan to another Ligue1 club or possibly Ligue2. At his age he needs lots of game time. What ever happens from here Bill is in a good position. Even if he does not crack the big time at OM in the next three years the club will not just cut him. They will sell him and try and recoup some money. Its all up to him now.

Awesome news, something positive for one of our disheartened U23s. Hopefully that will encourage the others.

Whatever happens to Bill this season greatly depends on what happens in the transfer window in the next few weeks. OM want to strengthen their central midfield but  have already missed out on a couple of DM targets. There have been lots of names banded about. Flamini and Diarra from Arsenal, Aquilani from Florientina(???) a couple of Chilean internationals as well. But OM are in "low cost " mode which is good news for Bill. New experianced players coming in push him down the ladder. However a season out on loan for a 20 year old is not that bad an option.

I am really pleased for Bill. So many young kiwis have gone away to clubs and have not got contracts....Tuiloma and Thomas are two great outcomes. Need more kiwi kids on the Continent IMO.

Big news.  Well done bill and all those who helped along the way.

Bill played most of the second half for Marseilles in their preseason game against Fenebache yesterday. OM lost 3-1. Fenebache are a very good team and have recently recruited Robert van Persie and Nani from Man U. They are playing a Champions League game next week. Marseille, playing only their second preseason game looked a little under done.

Bill played well. He certainly did not look out of place. He always looks to have plenty of time when he has the ball...usually a sign of a good player. A local football website rated Bill fourth best Marseille player out of the 15 who got match time. Its a promising start for him.

This is how he looked against Portugal in Hamilton, would have easily made that Portugal team if he had been born there. A true talent, so happy for him.

Bugger for Bill as Marseille sign Lass Diarra and Abou Diaby

Lass Diarra and Abou Diaby

Diarra signing has been confirmed. Excellent player... 100+ games for Real Madrid. He got a bit lost chasing the $$$ in Russia for a couple of years but he is only 30 and is super motivated to crack the French national side for Euro2016. If he shows any of his Real form he will be a top gun for Marseille

Diaby is not confirmed yet....they are waiting on medicals as he's been injured something like 40 times in the last 5 years. Big debate in Marseille if they should sign him. His nickname is "the mummy" because he's always bandaged up. He hardly played any games for Arsenal over many many years. OM might take him on a small wage plus a big bonus per games played. When he did play for Arsenal he was one of the best midfielders in Europe...which why Wenger put up with his constant injuries.

If Diarra and Diaby recapture their true form OM will have a very very good midfield. Which is bad news for Bill. OM already have two mids Romao and Lemina who rate higher than Bill. There are rumours of another midfield signing as well. I can see Bill getting loaned out to another Ligue 1 or 2 club for a season so he can get more game time.

Meanwhile Bill put in another good shift for OM in a preseason game against Turkish Div1 side Anatalyaspor on Saturday. Bill played most of the second half...OM easily won 5-2.

Has Bill being played as a DM or CB in pre season or a combination of both?

Sounds like Diaby has signed. That's good for Bill in my opinion. Just can't see how Diaby will play more than a handful of games, the guy is seriously banjaxed. They will surely need to sign another mid before they consider loaning Bill out.

Confirmed by BBC - will be good for BT, a be a good positional mentor who's played at the highest levels (if somewhat sporadically).

Surely its better for him to be loaned out and getting game time?

Bill made his first start for OM  last night in a pre season game against Italian club side Livorne(D2). He played the full 90 minutes. OM fielded their B side and some youngsters from the age group side. They lost 1-2. Bill had a solid game. He started as a Centre Back in a 442 and at half time went to the  right hand side of a back three. He didn't do anything spectacular but did what he had to do calmly....made tackles, positioned well and passed accurately. Many on the OM forum said he was OM"S best defender.

I think Beilsa wanted to see how versatile Bill is. With Diarra and Diaby arriving in central mid and another player rumoured to sign soon then if Bill can do a shift at the back then he has a better chance of making the match day squad.

With all the new recruits arriving.....Roncoglia a Argentinian international defender supposedly arriving today and a Chilean international being targeted it will be tough for Bill to get game time once the season starts. However OM are playing in four competitions, Europa League, Ligue1, France Cup and League Cup. There are lots of midweek games so plenty of opportunities if Bill can crack the first squad.

Huge game this weekend. Marseille vs Juventus. Would be amazing for Bill if he got some match time in that game!!!!!!!

Bill never made the match day squad for yesterdays game against Juventus. Beilsa had a good look at him during preseason, including playing him at CB. However with the new recruits coming in including Diarra and Diaby I think Bill has missed the cut. OM will play over 50 games this season so there is a chance that Bill will get some match time. However their are reports that Marseille are still looking for another midfielder. I think Bill's season will be back in reserve grade with the occasional promotion to the bench of the first team to cover for injuries and suspensions. Personally I think he needs to be loaned out and get to play 30+ matches.

OM beat Juventus 2-1. It was a great game...tough, fast and robust.....not like a preseason game at all. Huge noisy Marseille croud of 64,000 roared their team home. OM are looking in good shape this season.

Terrible news for Bill and OM about Bielsa. Left over budget?

Hope the new gaffer likes to play youth players.

Back home to Argentina, possibly a candidate for the recently vacant Mexico role. Pretty bad news for Tuiloma though. Bust your arse through pre season for this to happen. Hope he gets loaned out to a Ligue 2 side or something similar.
