Ryan LOWRY (quad – end of season). But the question is, is it injury in quotes.

Not on the Phoenix Fifa 18 squad in the lastest update and for the last few updates.

I would imagine Ridenton is getting renewed regardless or will it be up to the new coach??

My view:

Andrew DURANTE - release
Scott GALLOWAY - keep
Lewis ITALIANO - release
Andrija KALUDJEROVIC (f) - keep
Matija LJUJIC (f) - keep
James McGARRY (u21) - keep
Michael McGLINCHEY - keep
Daniel MULLEN - keep
Monty PATTERSON - Loan Ended
Goran PARACKI (f) - keep
Matthew RIDENTON - keep
Logan ROGERSON (u21) - keep
Alex RUFER - keep
Tando VELAPHI - keep

Some of those I'd only keep on reduced payment.

I think we could attract better imports but those 3 on their best days are up to A League standard - challenge is to get the best out of them. If we can sign better - then I'm ok with doing that.

I'm releasing Durante because I think he might be a disruptive influence and Italiano because we have as good available in NZ that could make the step up.

Its not a huge clear out but in reality, a new coach is only going to really make a recruiting difference with the quality and number of imports he can attract. I don't think the talent pool is big enough in Australasia for a wholesale clean out of locals.

The press release when Patterson came here was he was playing for a contract so it's a keep or release decision for us.

My view:

Andrew DURANTE - Keep, but on the condition of being more of a squaddy and on a smaller wage

Scott GALLOWAY - 50/50. Depends on who the coach is - he has talent, needs the right style of play to unlock it, otherwise he's garbage

Lewis ITALIANO - Release. Substandard

Andrija KALUDJEROVIC (f) - Release - I know he scored 9 goals which is respectable and is arguably the best header of the ball in the league, but he took a huge amount of shots and missed a lot of sitters

Matija LJUJIC (f) - Release. Sometimes good, sometimes poor. Good technical ability but positioning is off - is he a 10 or an 8? Like to think we could sign better

James McGARRY (u21) - Release. Or keep. Who knows, he never plays. I'd keep hold of him before we get rid of Parkhouse first.

Michael McGLINCHEY - Release. We've seen fudge all from Mikey for a few years for a lot of wage cap space. Time to move him on.

Daniel MULLEN - Keep. Got better has the season went on, was in his best form when the injury happened.

Monty PATTERSON - 50/50. Seems to be the most technical out of himself, McGarry and Parky, but seems to be the slowest. Keep two out of those three max, would probably lean towards Patterson and maybe keep McGarry.

Goran PARACKI (f) - Release. Like with Kalu and Ljujic, our imports need to be our star players, and while he was solid I don't think we should settle. We need to be ambitious next year and the defensive mid position is so important, we need absolute quality.

Matthew RIDENTON - Keep. No brainer.

Logan ROGERSON (u21) - Keep. Has done enough in the last few games to warrant a renewal. Looks like he has somewhat sorted out those attitude issues a bit too (still a cocky little shark though).

Alex RUFER - Release. Heaps of much better central midfielders in the Handy Prem, time to give 'em a go. A name only gets you so far.

Tando VELAPHI - Keep. Doesn't seem all that flappy anymore, looks solid.

.

.

If I'm not mistaken this leaves 16-18 players for next season, with 4 import spaces and a decent amount of wage cap freed up. New coach wouldn't have to make a ridiculous amount of signings, but has enough room to tailor the roster to their style of play/vision for next season.

Story on Rossi leaving contains this throwaway gem...

"Durante is expected to announce a one-year extension in the coming days."

PLUS

"General manager David Dome says the club is also close to naming a new head coach to replace Darije Kalezic who departed mid-season, leaving Chris Greenacre in interim charge."

https://www.a-league.com.au/news/italian-defender-...

I really hope the Durante signing only happens with the blessing of the incoming coach, whoever that may be. We've had too many instances of players being resigned by people who shouldn't be making those decisions, and I hope the club has learned that lesson.

But then again...

Sounds like guess work based on a tweet. (Rossi was a given to go home)

Rufer has to be released, he is very inconsistent and there are players in the handy prem that are a lot better than him. Would like to see McCowatt at least get a trial.

Agree strongly with all of these, except maybe a bit harsh on Rogerson given he did pretty well in the few games he was involved in towards the end of the season. The three Balkan lads all seem like genuinely good guys so it feels a little rough, but we can't afford to settle for mediocre imports, and having three or four import spaces free for the new coach to fill with his own guys is more favourable

I agree with releasing our other imports, but we can't play so fast and loose with Kiwi and Aussie squaddies. We can't guarantee that the people we sign will be any better. Keep them on reduced wages, sure, but don't cut off your nose to spite your face

Losing him would suck but I'm always happy to see a Kiwi player being seen as good enough to fill a visa slot at another club.

Yes, visa player. The source is someone on Twitter who was looking over Ernie's shoulder at the Jest/Citeh game and saw certain texts. Impossible to tell how reliable.

This is what happens when you go into a period of players signing contracts and we have no manager to do the job.  Not saying he wouldn't have gone anyway, but not having any idea whether or not a potential new coach may want you or not certainly wouldn't have held him back.

Yep to be honest I wouldn’t mind too much if he goes. I think the reason there was so much hype around him is because we finally had a young Kiwi developing into something good in the A-League. Didn’t think he was the best on the pitch and we could do a lot better in centre midfield next season, but at the end of the day there’s still a young Kiwi being developed in the league (albeit at the Jets)  so it’s a win-win in my book
