We were second behind only the Mariners on attendance vs local population and the Mariners were helped by not being shit last season and having an opposition who's fan base are a two hour drive away.
The last two games in Auckland and Christchurch had significant drops from the first games at those two venues. If the same size drop had occured for 3rd games there neither venue would have broken 10k either.
