If you are holding a special promotion to attract Mormons, you don't hold that promotion on a Sunday do you? Likewise if you holf a promotion for kids, it needs to be at a time that suits kids [or the parents that would be bringing them]

Didn't all clubs do the kids free thing this weekend? I'm pretty sure Victory did.
If so then its out of the clubs hands and in the realm of the FFA - or actually that man in Canada that Dome said does all the scheduling.
As a matter of interest is anyone aware if any of the clubs in Aussie have a 7pm kickoff on a Sunday as a regular time slot. Yes im aware 7 here is mostly 5 or earlier over there.Im aware they use it on a Friday and Saturday but think Perth might be the only ones who have used it on a Sunday.
They generally have Perth play at 5pm on Sunday, which is 7pm eastern. So generally no games at 7 on the east coast.

Was a HAL wide promotion. pretty sure it was the first time it's been done
Fail on our situation. Everyone knows it is a fail on a Sunday nitht for us and I suspect the FFA know that too going on previous experience. We had one game at an earlier time on a Saturday once and there were kids everywhere so to speak. A really good attendence.

It was an FFA promotion - given that the Phoenix charge just $2 for kids, it was hardly the bargain of the century and doubt it did much for getting more families along.
The higher numbers were more likely due to it being the school holidays. I took my 7 year old nephew (who has yet to see the Phoenix lose, this was his 4th game) but had it being during school time, his parents wouldn't have let him go

Not necessarily, IIRC Brisbane it would be 7pm but Sydney would be 8pm.

So interesting article by Liam here saying that the Nix are counting higher crowds than what Westpac does
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/882...
"The gap between the home attendances reported by the Wellington Phoenix and Westpac Stadium is widening, although the football club says the explanation is simple.
Across four seasons from 2011 to 2015, the Phoenix's reported average home attendances for each season at the Cake Tin were between 2.2 and 4.5 per cent higher than what the stadium reported.
But last season the gap was 13.8 per cent, with the Phoenix reporting an average Westpac Stadium attendance of 7748 and the stadium saying it was 6807. This season the gap was 7.2 per cent in the first three games, excluding the New Year's Day match against Adelaide United."
Best game I saw at Westpac (in 2010) when we won in front of 24,000 was from memory a Sunday 4pm kick-off.
Perth? We got a penalty?
Perth? We got a penalty?
I was thinking v Newcastle. Game before Perth.

It's a beat up over nothing. Dome explained why it happens, the article also said that the Warriors had a 28% discrepancy and other teams in the A-League also have a bigger discrepancy than the Phoenix.
Another way of writing the article would be "Phoenix have most accurate crowd reporting statistics"

I don't understand how the two groups (in every case) can have different numbers. Surely there's just one number.

The article states variations, like people let in free/early that dont go through the gates, and he said people who are let in when the barcode scanners don't work.
I just wonder where they get accurate numbers of people not being scanned through.

Dome said in the article that sometimes they have people counting, other times they have clickers, and sometimes they just have to estimate.
that sounded like a load of rubbish from Dome to me
So can I assume we are all in agreement on one thing? That the Bar Code readers & or the Tickets/Season Tickets are crap when it comes to admitting one into a game? And therein lays the problem.
The discrepancy has been for longer than just this year though. I wasn't totally convinced with Dome's explanation and saw one set of figures where there were a couple of hundred difference and thought - could be, then another of about 1000 difference and thought - no way.
If this is widespread and AFA know about it, then not really a problem, if its not and AFA suspect skulduggery it won't help the Nix case in their fight for survival.
I'd think that everyone does it and wants give the impression to everyone but the tax man that they have more people watching than actually are.

Ryan summed it up best here.
Silly sensationilist headlines.
The other clubs A, didn't have a change in the size of discrepancies take place last year at B, a time when their metrics became extra important.

It's not beyond the realm of reason that the team, sponsors, local government, etc. would up their support and bring in more people through the non ticketed entry ways during a save the nix campaign.

The Phoenix are a private entity that have no obligation to report crowd figures.
They can just stop reporting crowd figures publicly completely and this issue goes away entirely. Is that what you want AP?
If you want a story - there's a much bigger and more relevant one than this about the club that one could report on if they did a little digging.

If only. That really would be an awesome day.

Ok is it a good or bad story for the club?

Good or bad probably depends on your point of view.
