What an awesome crowd at that Sydney derby!!! Here's my opinion on bigger crowds to achieve this we need to create a spectacle , yes winning football is important but it's you guys the fever that will bring the casual fan. It's the crowd experience that you can't get at a rugby match. If you guys grow and get bigger and stronger and louder the fans will come. I've got mates now that are fans because we have taken them to the games when we know there will be an atmosphere and now there hooked we take regular trips to Wellington and go to every Auckland game.
I love the Phoenix !! I mean damn I named my dog Phoenix but it's for the singing and the passion of the crowd more than the football we play.
Grow the yellow fever and they will come!
I'm generally a fan of what west sydney are doing but I'd like to see the state of the RBB if they finished 9th then 10th

empty stadium, like it was toward the end of the game we were beating them last season and before their winning run in their first season.
I think you're missing the point I'm saying look at it as a spectacle peopel ie. the casual fans are going because of the atmosphere they create. I'm not implying you guys need to start rioting.

Think it was just a perfect storm for WSW - they've been crying out for a club for a long time, and the run they went on was incredible. If we did that in our first season I guarantee we would have more season members now. We've obviously missed that boat though..
What was our home game unbeaten record back in 2010? 20 odd games? Covering two seasons?
That drove our crowds upwards - winning home games and getting home playoffs.

Considering there is not much up there, they could do ok but 15k would be stretching it. Mind you, how did Dunedin go for the Phoenix

I think any reporter with ANY sense of smarts (and that's scraping the barrel bare) would realise that with that game getting fuck all, Lions crowds around 2K, the Phoenix crowds look great by comparison in shitty timeslots. But I doubt they'll take pot shots at those sports. Wellington folk may be turning into Auckland folk and becoming apathetic to live sport. (this is not a knock at Wellingtonians but more highlighting an obvious point)

What percentage of Wellington-based fans has tended to make up the crowd at 'home away from home' games? Surely anywhere that requires more than one flight or that you can't drive to in a day would be a disaster.

Shows it is about TV. During the summer though you would expect people to get out more as one of the sad complaints is people dont go to because of the weather, but I guess between deciding on beach and beers or cricket more people choose the first one.

Around 1k from one end of the CBD and the only people who would care about the ACL win would be visiting Wanderers fans.
Crowd numbers tend to be around the same regardless of kick off time but the night games tend to be a better zone, so better atmosphere. What you gain from people having a night out, you lose on families not wanting to take their kids out so late.

I think that is spot on. The people that hang around are the 100% football supporters who might go and have a few beers with their mates first.
