The time would have been a big factor for families I would imagine. The possibility of extra time and penalties would have meant kids getting to bed pretty late (depending on the age of kids and how long it would take them to get home) on a school night. Even finishing at 90 minutes might have been a pretty late bedtime for some kids by the time they got home.
