The thi ng is this year the club can take their time and be choosey, last year things were a bit rushed. Durante & McKain although class signings, it sends a message to other clubs that we are serious and also to players that if you're good enough and available, we might be interested.

An excellent situation to be in.

IMHO we need two more defenders - RB/CD playing ability and a RWB too and that should tie up the back line. I am tempted to suggest another LB too to cover Lochhead but I'll let others comment on that.

Found this on the Politehnica 1921 fan's blog. Just a few words but sounds like he was fairly well respected there.

Hey!

Saw you guys were checking out my blog and figured I might give you some extra info, if you need it.

I don't know the level of football in the A-League (heard it had become more competitive), but Jon was a very good defender over here, probably the best one we had. He's extremely good in the air and keeps well composed under pressure. I don't really remember him making any big mistakes, except for a fairly spectacular own goal last year.

As far as I can tell, McKain's a really serious guy, keeps to his football and we were sorry he didn't want to sign a new contract. However, he had said he was looking to advance his career in Western Europe, which obviously wasn't the case, but as I understood it, his wife wanted to be closer to home.

If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the heads up on McKain. i think we are all pretty glad to have him with us after our defencive frailties last season. Reliability and consistency where at the top of the list when it came to looking for defenders for this season.

Booyah! I think we've just seen who our 'plan b' is if we don't get Porter!

glad he wasn't wearing a Nix shirt at the time, that ball was fair whistling along, the keeper looked a bit surprised

edit - the keeper appeared to hunch down after the ball whistled past his head - his body language is a classic
