Surprised this hasn't turned into a massive argument over goal-line technology.

Guess there's still time though.

Even on the standard Sky replay you can see that Elrichs foot does not go over the goal line, he makes contact with the ball behind the line, hence a goal.

It's a moot point  anyway as the game is over and the goal stands.
Irrelevant.  The whole ball has to go over the whole line.

Thats what I just said..

I think 2B was pointing out that the whole ball didn't go over the line even though Elrich's standing foot is inside the goal. Hence not a goal.

Meh, people wonder why we talk about it when it goes our way but the reality is most people would be crying about it if it was against us. I don't see why we can't talk about it either way.

Fuck this stupid game

This.

And as i have said the whole ball was over the line. The linesman was in the best position on the park to see it and he had no hesitation.

Um well the whole ball wasn't over the line, it's quite clear. I'm not sure what you're looking at. The linesman made the call and fair play to him. He just didn't get it right, the replay shows that.

Fuck this stupid game

The policy on replays is bizzare ,I know its a one size fits all rule  but did they really expect the Jets supporters to jump over the fence ,charge the length of the park ,dodge the two security men that were on duty (one who due to his gargantuan size would have taken at least 15 min to run round ), jump the other fence and head butt Hard News in the belly?

it prevents situations like the Argentina vs Mexico game at the world cup where the player was clearly offside when the goal was scored and the replays meant that that 22 players, the officals team and 60,000 fans watched replays confirm this (and the massive cock up) but could do nothing about it.  It was a farcical situation and that doesn't need repeating.

And quite literally the smartest thing you have ever posted Frankie. I feel sick writing that.

Then I will ruin it for myself by stating that showing replays of controversal decisions will eventually result in another

Probably wasn't a goal, so what! Greenie is owed for the goals that were goals but weren't goals, so its fair enough that he gets a goal that wasn't goal.
And just to start debate, we should have goal line technology and more importantly mechanical laser linesmen. I'm sick of useless human linesmen poorly attempting a job which is shown to be humanly impossible.
Thats right, often the linesmen's job is optically impossible, he cannot possibly observe both the player and ball to obtain the data to make the call.
Which is why robots should do it, end of.

I wondered if the goal was given because the player defending was stood over the line in the goalmouth and exaggerated how much of the ball appeared to go over the line (not sure if I have worded this right)

In this particular case the linesman had only one job, as offside wasn't an issue, which was to look along the line and see whether the ball had crossed it or not. Observing players wasn't relevant. Fairly straightforward.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
