We have far better options up front than Costa, but a lot hasn't seemed to be working so I'd bring him on for the last 25minutes.

Ok may I ask how do we have far better options up front than Costa?
And if you say coveny then u have no idea about football

Personally up front I feel Smeltz, Kwasnik, and Draper are better.  Although they aren't strikers Bertos and Gao could also probably do the job better.  I'd put Coveny and Costa on the same level to be honest.  Both good players, Coveny has actually proved himself and has pace, though, which could put him ahead of Costa in Ricki's mind.

And in answer to Uncle Steve's question to ScottishBhoy, we should only play Costa and Draper when we need to.  They shouldn't get a start just to share gametime around, this isn't U-12's anymore.  What the Phoenix should do is work towards getting a team in the Youth League for next season.

I know it is very trendy to sl*g off Ricky at the moment, but he is still the the gaffer of our team.  We can argue all we like that Costa should be playing ("nothing to lose" Ryzah13 - are you sure????????) or shouldn't be playing, but Ricki sees him everyday in training and knows what level he is playing at.  For that reason I trust his judgement more than anyone's on here, irrelevant of their nationality.

As a side note, Costa is not the messiah that some people on here think that he is.

In fact, he is a very naughty boy.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Let me help Scottish Buoy out...
If you love Costa and Draper so much then why don't you give them a chant from Greek Fever. I heard you were much louder than those Yelllow Fever posers anyway.

The thing is gunner, when does this time come? When are we going to NEED costa. When we are 4-0 down against Aselaide in the final game of the season?

At the moment we are missing somthing, weather it be the fundamentals of football, our full fit squad, or just somthing stronger in the water, but at the end of the day those under 23 spots are there for a reason and right now all there doing is gathering dust.

Made my point clear, its not about Costa costa costa, put him up front, chahoo, long balls, awsome yeah, its just allowing some of this so called talent, some space improve.

I give up.

Ill come with you boys and sit in the YF section. We can all take our shirts off when were 4-0 down, chant for our team that is sitting bottom of the table for the 20th time in two seasons, and sit back and watch ricki work his magic.

Cant wait!

The time comes when the coach says.  I hope it isn't the case but we may not need Costa for many more games yet, or we use him when our strikeforce is depleted.

Those U-23 spots are there for the development of Australian and (in the case of the Phoenix) NZ youth.  And it is understandable the U-23's are gathering dust because they don't, in many cases, have the skills or experience of older players.

Haha nah last year perhaps we had a bit of noise at times. But this year nah. I got nothing against yellow fever so I wouldnt call them really posers, I think theyv done a great job getting behind the team. Im kind of over this thread to be honest, so if anyone else has any opinion on this matter then feel free to say what you like. Wel see how the team goes this week ok.

The thing is on paper guys like Gao, Kwasnik, Bertos, Hearfield and Daniel are quality players but you would not guess that watching them lately. Hopefully the team talks this week will spark them up and we'll see some of the flair on Sunday.

Tell Costa to have a warm up in front of the Fever if he gets named on the bench, we'll give him a big "Nothing rhymes with Barabarusos!" (Sorry Costa if I spelt that wrong)

Why is everyone arguing about the number of goals scored by Costa?  Correct me if I am wrong but isn't his natural position left midfield?  I'm sure striker is a secondary role for him...

no, but he's not in the squad anyway.

would have liked to have seen at least one of the two in the extended squad, but is now really the time to be blooding the young guns when what we need is a solid defence and a clinical attack??

why would you want to blood them anyway?? ffs were trying to win a league here not trying to develop players or give them some game time - costa had a chance to shine in nsw - he didnt so he can train his ass off and try get into game day squad - hes not gonna get in cause hes peoples fav on this website - hes gotta show hes actually good enough to be on that 4 man bench - i havnt seen it and i doubt ricki has too.

I can understand the need to blood them but they are not up to scratch and there is only four subs allow on the bench. So really only one spot for a forward and the competition is thick.

Lets put it this way, if there was no two U23 spots as required by A-League regulation, I doubt if they would be in the club . . .

But it is a concern that we unable to get a team in the National Youth League that will kick off this weekend. It allows 4 over agers plus the two youngsters which allows the rest of the squad that are not named for the A-league match to play in it. Which then advantages the australian team and disadvantages us this coming this part of the season.AllWhitebelievr2008-09-26 19:11:45

So who the fk would you say in the phoenix is up to scratch. 3 players I would say.
Moss, Smeltz and Mckain and usually Bertos is a bit of an impact.

Wel c after todays game. If we get thumpd, it will be interesting to see how the crowd reacts.
Great day for it. Yellowe Fever lets see if you can chant throughout the entire game this time.

I'll be there making as much noise as the body can handle. Last home game in 7 weeks for me, better make it count.

hhhhm as our current striker/strikers are not scoring (3 blank games) why not give Draper, Costa or any fan who "scores" on a regualr basis a run?? Although the quality of the supplied ammunition is there, it seems like no one wants to pull the trigger so to speak.

One point I would like to make though is that "Young" Costa isn't getting any younger and it's time to stand up and be counted, time to score some goals! We really need them.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

So what's the opinion after todays game?

Covs as always never looked like scoring but he won some good ball and I'm sure we got a few passes away. I'm on the fence, I want to see Costa and Drapes play but is it really impreative that they do?

Nothings changed for me, we scored more than the opposition and although he wasn't outstanding covs didn't do anything wrong. Would still like to see one of them on the bench in the near future.
You know we belong together...
