I've only seen the highlights of yesterdays game so I don't really want to make a judgement but it would have to be very special for it to go past GCU, for the following reasons:

- Hadn't we just drawn 6-straight games? Ricki had been saying we were almost there and it would click and we would smack someone (sound familiar?)

- It was Smeltzys first trip back after that rather interesting split.

- GCU had spend gajillions of dollars in that first season and had been pretty dominant in the early stages of the competition though I think by this point the wheels had started to come off a bit.

My other nomination would be the 2-1 win over Melbourne in Season 2 (maybe 3) when Smeltzy scored that wonder goal. I don't think we had ever beaten Melbourne at that point and it took us into the top-4, for a couple of hours, for the first time in our history at that stage.

Agree.

For me:

1) 3-1 away at WSW this season

2) 5-0 against the Victory on the weekend

3) First win away at Sydney when the shirts off began

Just looking at old write-ups:

1. GCU would have been top of the table if it had won: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/wellington-phoenix-thrash-gold-coast-united-6-0-at-westpac-stadium/story-e6frea6u-1225791079265

2. Possibly only one shot on goal by GCU from a FK in 17th min: http://www.ultimatenzsoccer.com/Classics/v_gold_coast_united_251009.htm Smeltz not even a sniff of one.

3. Fred Woodcock gives good read: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/2999211/Phoenix-end-drought-with-flood-of-goals

Yes. Without a doubt.

Victory are a good side, much better than GCU were at the time.

Weren't GCU 2nd on the table at the time? It was early season though. End of October.

Yes.
It was Round 11 so not too early in the season (back when there was an August start... happy days).

I think that our first ever win in Sydney is massively underrated in our history. At one stage it was was our greatest ever win, and I think it is still in our top 3

great call

Wasn't that when shirts-off was born as well?

I miss Miron...

"It never happened to me that I lost 6-0 so it's a new experience, it's the Ricki Horror Show," he said. "I can't even blame the referee, he had a good game. I think it will take time for it to sink in. I'm still laughing. I'll probably cry into my pillow during the night."

Bleiberg congratulated Herbert and revealed he had considered buying his counterpart's new book. "If his book was a bit cheaper I would have bought it. I was walking down the street and only had a $20 note, but he wants $36 for his book and I didn't have it."

I miss him, he was actually a decent coach. If we didnt get Ernie, I'd have been happy to have gotten him.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Jets could do worse than getting him in for next season. He certainly adds some colour to the A-League.

The 2-1 against Melbourne was even better as it was a come from behind win

Piney puts Kenny's goal vs the Tards as the goal of the season to date in his mid-term review, but also Stein's goal for the 5th of the same game.

I like this one better (@1:05)

I disagree and I wrote as much about a year ago when we were looking for a new coach. Miron is a decent bloke, and a reasonable coach, but the Nix needed a better coach than Miron at that time. He is too uneven and inconsistent, and does not stay anywhere long enough to bed in a a new culture. I would have taken the 'old' Ernie, the unsmiling dour schoolmaster from AIS, but the new relaxed smiling laid-back Ernie is an unexpected bonus. No contest.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
