I don't understand any of this angst (and believe me, I do angst big time).  At least 25,000 fans at a football match, an iconic player in Wellington, a weekend feast of football, live TV on primetime - how can people find so many negatives?  Enjoy it people.

Don't forget Landon Donavon, and more importantly, the Phoenix.

Here's one more point. 11+11=22. Our squad numbers 23 but 3 goalies. So we have enough players to cover with a few players playing both as substitutes.

Hard to find negatives with this game. A 30,000 plus crowd looks possible. When was the last time a crowd like this attended a football match? One of the `82  qualifers?

It could also be a chance for Ricki to trial a couple of NZFC players. Looking ahead to next season.

This game is about money. About 50-75% of the people are going to see "beks" not the phoenix.

It wont matter wether we win 4-0 or loose 4-0 its a friendly. The public has had enough oppurtunities to see the phoenix already.

I think a few people have touched on my point, but I think it's a matter of looking at the positives rather than being worried about all the adverse affects it could have.

Sure it's not ideal timing, but the opportunity to play a high profile team (ok - player) came up and the Phoenix jumped at it to raise the profile.  Just look at all the talk already - the Knights/Kingz never got near this much publicity (I know, I know, stop the comparisons).

The whole Phoenix squad is pretty solid, look at the joy we are having trying to come up with a starting XI with everyone fit this week.  Say we rolled out with a 'second string' side consisting (4-4-3):
-----------------Paston------------------------
--Lia-------O'Dor----Cleberson--------Old--
------George---Johnson--- Ferante--------
-Barbarousus--Brownlie------------Draper-

Or use a 3-4-3 with Lia in midfield and 3 CD's?

Not bad if you ask me - a little light on defense maybe, but hey, so is the 'A' team! (Gotta wonder about the balance of the squad Ricki - but that's another thread...)
And it's an exhibition match anyway, so why not all out attack, 9-7 to the 'Nix.
