Here's a cold, hard dose of reality...
In the previous three 27-game seasons it has required at least 32 points and an average of 34 points to make the play-offs (and in 11/12 it was actually 37 points).
So from where we are now we need another 30 points (from 19 games) in order have the average number of points required to make the play-offs in previous seasons.
Now the bad news. In the last 4 seasons (i.e. the only 4 seasons in the history of the A-League which have been at least 27 games) between Round 9 and Round 27 the most points we have ever collected is 32 (in 09/10). Add that to the number of points we have already (4) and we might just squeeze into the play-offs with 36 points. The average amount of points we have collected between Round 9 and Round 27 is 26. Add that to the points we already have and we'll have 30 points and won't make the play-offs.
What this means is that despite having had our worst start to a season ever for the rest of the season we will have to play at least as well as we ever have (if not better) just to make the play-offs. Can anybody see where that transformation is going to come from?
