Oh I was referring to the same situation twice. I meant it to read Rojas (aka Judas) not like Rojas/Smeltz. And yeah totally different things not really meant for comparison. Should have said Rojas/mini-Judas. My bad.
The Fenton/Rojas situations are completely different too.

Good call Bevan!
Funnily enough, Mrs Redged and I were singing exactly this at the back of the zone, row U last night. We got a little support but not enough to grow it large. Suspect we'll get plenty more chances, the way he plays.    *Wink,Wink+Thumbs up+ clap clap emoticons*

Agree and your added words might just be what my effort so sadly lacked during the game ;-)

certainly deserves his own chant and that's the tune, though god knows how we'll manage the a-woah o oh-oh-oh business

I was thinking exactly of this song.. It is meant to be.

Louie, Louie, A woah oh oh oh.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Has TVNZ done a "We were with Fenton right from the start" piece yet?

It would no doubt be reported on by Stanaway: "We went to visit Louis in deepest Tawa.  We got lost and ended up in Newlands.  We had to call the police because those dodgy locals were looking at us (and our hub caps) funny. Luckily a kindly gent from J'ville escorted us out.  I was right scared and they weren't even black."

Those who have seen him play more then once are better qualified to comment but watching him play I gained the impression that he is not merely a winger (even though he did pretty well) but may be best suited to playing in the hole just behind the front two?

Hmmmmm..seem him play three times so not a lot.  Personally I think he is suited to wide left given he cuts in most times.  He does track back and build from there but I dont see centre mid distribution in his game yet. I was pleased when he took on the fullback more on the outside in the second half. A top talent tho and brilliant vision for the goal.

He did look to come inside and try to find the ball, something Rojas could learn from.

Its great to see, a future forward line of

Rojas                       Fenton

        Wood     Barbs

is pretty exciting. Barbs would be the oldest at 23??

Now if we could only find a world class NZ CM we would be set. (Mclinchey just hasn't done it for me yet, and Keats still finding his way professionally.)

Yeah unlike Marco who probably should stay out wide, Fenton's game would work in the middle of the park. He is strong enough, quick enough and has good vision. Maybe play him central if we ever go to a 4231 / 433

Fenton has played in the middle a lot and does prefer to play there I believe.

We've got him for 3 years so he aint going to any other a-league side anytime soon - and if he was to leave to a foreign league then we would get some $$$

Too early to be talking about bids...

However, it does seem like the A League is looked at a little more now than when it first started. This should good better with the games now shown in Italy, including the finals, so if he has a stellar year who knows.

Wonder what his price tag would be.... 300,000NZ - The value of his contract for the next 3 years plus a bit extra??

please note, his real price tag is .... priceless : )

Broadcasts in Italy indicate the increasing interest in the league - but note that a one hour A-League highlights package has screened on Sky TV in the UK since the league's debut. More then a decade ago before the A-League in the days of the Kingz in the NSL, I was surprised to find a one hour NSL package on Sky in the UK with a lot of repeats.
There aren't many English-speaking countries with decent leagues outside the UK (just MLS in the States and the A-League) which means A-League packages are convenient for broadcasters - no need to add an English commentary etc.
Fox own the A-League broadcast rights and being part of Murdoch's News International empire which includes Sky TV in the UK and Fox Sports and Fox Soccer Channel in the US etc., it means good international exposure possibilities.

Fenton giving big ups to Ifill*heart emoticon*.

I think that the two best foreign signings the club has made are Greenie and Ifill - both on the field and off. Professional and nice people (and that goes for their partners too).

My only regret is that C-Diddy made the Grennie-Ifill club sandwich first.

Got a bit greedy today heading towards the box from midfield...Needed to give it to Stein (underutilised and frustrated.) on the edge.

This 'greed' is what can turn Fenton into something special though, something that we havent seen in NZ since Rufer. Not saying hes going to be the next Rufer - but NZ has always had a distinct lack of players who can take the ball, take on a couple of players, and make something special happen. This whole 'always look to pass to someone' mentality is what will keep us from footing it with the worlds best.

That's ridiculous. He'll be great if he's unpredictable. If he chooses to take on the man every time defenders will figure him out. He'll need to mix it up and choose when it's the right time to go or to pass.

Bertos and Marco fell into the trap of always trying to beat the man to do something for the highlight reels. Ifill can be guilty of the same at times.

I agree Fenton should take his chances to shoot, but not when another player was in a better position to shoot.

Did a bit too much today at times, whereas last week he seemed to make the best decision every time. But showed class also at times and is clearly a player with x factor and multiple strings to his bow.

i dont mean EVERY TIME, if theres a blatantly obvious opening to another player then you would be a mug not to take it. Hes more confident than most are at taking players on and he should keep it up

I'm disappointed that a young kid in his second A league game after only a few months of FT professional training and under pressure following an outstanding debut in front of his home town surrounded by experienced colleagues failed to back up under very different circumstances in a ridiculously inexperienced team epically failed to make the right decision 100% of the time.

It's just not good enough.

I want more.
