Not at all, there's plently of guys that can get foreign passports and good on them and we should be promoting more of them to overseas clubs. There also some of the wynrs guys (who might also be able to get passports). Also Europe isnt the only market available to our youngsters overseas. If you guys think that these talented kids are better off staying and playing in NZ you are frankley living in a dream world.

Credit to the Yellow Fever for the role you are playing in developing talent for your club. Solid effort to all involved.

Of course that's true but that's being done, look at the number of guys who are prepared for college in the states.  Ultimately for him the choice seems to be between the NZFC and the Phoenix, and that's a pretty simple decisions I would have thought.

The advent of some sort of reserve side would make it even easier.

A couple of those young players in Japan (via Wyners contacts) should be about 17-18 years old about now. How are they doing?

I had to laugh about some of the comments earlier in the thread questioning Marco's ability. One of the other Phoenix triallist's said to me, several weeks ago, "I'd sign Marco, he's got it!".
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

That's a good question AWB.

I would like to think that someone involved with the AWs has a spreadsheet or database set up to track all the Kiwi talent scattered around the world.

We've got a World Cup qualifier coming up and, who knows, there may be some 18 year old Kiwi hotshot emerging who is a 'must have' for the national squad.

And if we get to South Africa, we'll need all the top talent we can cobble together just to look respectable.

I'm pretty sure most of them are back here, same with the first generation of German players.  Leo Shin and Kayne Vincent are both back, and I thought I spotted Mario Hoffman's name on the scoresheet in the Chatham Cup lately (might be wrong).

Darren Young, Cole Peverley and another who was in Germany are all back here or unemployed as well.

Congrats to Marco
He's worked really hard and his folks are really tops. btw they have a Chilean background and his last name is said like 'Rowkhas' (not as in rock though) He is a kiwi though you r all probably aware of that. Who was it that commented about size, I don't recall Johnny Giles or Paul Scholes as being huge physically, but on the pitch, another matter!! Roddy's always tried to guide him in a sensible way so best of luck to them all. Agree with Manofiron, valeo and hard news and dairyflat, he is a talent, thanks for showing the way Phoenix and fever
