He looked very good in that short clip. Set up what should've been one, and then the perfect through-ball that led to the peno. His goal was a bit scrappy but only because the defender tracked him all the way, yet he still got in there ahead of him.

I thought his strength on the ball was fantastic, definitely growing up fast.

It was a pretty low level selection they played?

Who was the opposition?

They looked shocking.

Great play from Marco though.

Wow. I had to do a double take especially when he ran with the ball, put in a burst and had the physicality to be able to hold the player off.

probably been running at Kevin Muscat at Victory training...Didn't seem like a strong opposition, but can't have done his chances any harm so far surely.

Faaark, poor Macro, they seem pretty gutted on the VfB forum too.

Hopefully he bounces back, gotta be tough being injured in a new foreign city.

Terrible news foMarco...that is just about the worse thing that could happen to a young player just arriving at a new club. The staff would have been wanting to see him perform in preseason and then decide if he is ready for first squad duty or push him down to reserve grade or even loan him out to another club to get some experiance. Now he misses the whole preseason. The clubs website said he would not be ready for any football training for 6+ weeks but could do cycle/gym stuff. By the time he gets back into football mode the season will be well under way. The staff will be focusing on the weekly games. The first team squad will be set and playing so Marco will have try and to fight his way into the reserves.......its a major setback for him for sure!  Get well soon Marco

Stuttgart playing Gent today preseason....turned it off with them down 0-2. Used loads of suns so Marco would probably have had a run.

A 32-year-old attacking mid from VfB has transferred out of the club, will certainly move Marco up the pecking order when he's back on his feet

I can't be bothered translating it all, so here is googles version, plenty of strange ideas about visible sweat.....and of course daddy is with him.....

If colleagues exercising outdoors in the heat, is Marco Rojasnot necessarily jealous. He stays in the hotel, because it does not sweat. At least he does not realize it. That the water still running down his body, is because he mainly carries out his work in the pool. Not splashing, no - with Christos Papadopoulos. Under the guidance of fitness coach of Melbourne Victory's new signing pushes extra shifts. "We are trying all the muscle groups and body parts evacuate unless the injured," says Papadopoulos. In a test match against Hohenlohe-selection, Rojas had broken metatarsal - Five weeks of rest. "I would of course prefer to train with the team, but the important thing is that I will soon stay healthy and fit," said the New Zealander. This ensures Papadopoulos. In the water, the stamina effects should be similar in size to the training on the court.

Finally Rojas (21) already has enough to fight to keep up physically. In Melbourne, the pre-season lasted four months, while VfB four weeks - and at a higher level. "It is much more strenuous here," Even the training moans the lanky offensive talent on the three units daily, "the training with VfB is as hard as the games in Australia." In water: Rojas floats freely.

Photo gallery6 photos

VfB he must stand in line behind

In Melbourne, he was flown much as his talent on the other lifted him out. After 15 goals and eight assists professionals from the A-League last season before he was elected Alessandro del Piero's Player of the Year and to the talent of the year. VfB he must stand in line behind. "I believe in myself. When I'm fit, I raise my hand and show the coach that I'm ready for the first team, "said Rojas.

"Exciting", exciting the first few weeks have been for him. Amazed he has crossed the 30 000 fans, the last Sunday of the season opening: "In Melbourne there are not more than 2000," he says. That the followers accompany the team to all games and training camp, he does not know so well. The distances in Australia are also much larger.

Noodles, ravioli and sausage salad - "Tastes all right."

Papa Rodrigo accompanied him, he will stay the first few months with the son in Stuttgart, for the time being at the hotel. "That makes it easier for me," says Marco Rojas and praises the players:. "They've made it my just used to it" between the units he drummed into German. "Small sets can I speak on," he says. In the restaurant example, he ordered in German and wonders: "There is food here for every potatoes, potatoes again." Well, luckily there are also noodles. Ravioli and sausage salad. "I've already tried everything," says Rojas. And? "Tastes all right."

Thus it draws, aside from his injury, not on what is good for VfB, for Rojas - and its ambitions for the national team. At the Olympics in London, he was, for the World Cup to Brazil he wants to. As group winners of the oceanic World Cup qualifiers to New Zealand must now prevail over the Fourth of North and Central American qualifying group, Rojas is 2014. This spurs him on further, to the delight of Christos Papadopoulos: "When I say to Marco during an exercise, he should do 30 reps, he makes 35" He has not even sweat it. At least not noticeably.

Great. Thanks.

Pre-season at VfB "4 weeks ... at a higher level" than the 4 months at Melbourne. Interesting. Very.

I'm not really sure what else he should have been expecting when coming to the intense fitness schedule , they do play about triple the games a season compared to the average a league club.

Yeah, but there's another point: why don't HAL clubs train similarly? i.e. 4 weeks intensive. Rather than 3/4 months much less so. Is it because they still have to pay players wages over the long off-season and then justify this?

not sure really. I was thinking it may be in hope of injury prevention, because an intensive training period over a long time might be mentally and physically straining before the season start.

It's nice that he get featured in the local news, hard training and a lot of potatoes ;-) It must be much more competitive than the A-League. Hopes he gets fit and eventually plays.

It's great that his Dad is there, we always forget how young those players are, he does not speak the language, is injured. Must be good to have someone to talk to. It's a known problem in the Bundesliga that clubs not doing enough to integrate players into life outside the club.

Mainz v Stuttgart, Bundesliga: SOMMET SPORTS MONDAY 8PM

I know Marco will be out still, but at least we can get some idea what his team are like and wish he were playing...

Seem to have two or three complete Bundesliga games every weekend on Sommet Sports so augurs well for future viewing of Marco when he's fit again.

Stuttgart 0:1 Bayer Leverkusen

Just be back from the game, some quick impressions. Attandence was 40800 the local fans where great, made all kind of noise the whole time. The big video screens didn't showed anything from the game, no replays, no goals, nothing. I thought that was a real bummer. Just some ads and basic infos from the game.

I thought, they played much higher standard. How they pushed the ball around was pretty sleak. Leverkusen had most of the game time in the first half, Stuttgart pressed hard in the second. One, two touches and then pass. Some long balls to switch side which always found it's target. Game was pretty quick all the way, I followed a bouncing ball into the ranks while they already attacked for the next goal, I hope that is the speed Ernie is talking about. Each time a pass or cross was bad, fans made angry noises.

The menu: red sauge in a bun, sausage in a bun, steaks and french fries, I guess you have to be German to enjoy that. Soft Drinks and Beer 4€. The don't take cash or eftpos. You have to by a VFB Fan mastercard for 20€ to buy things at the food stalls. The card is only charged with 15€, totally rip-off. The good thing is paying gets pretty quick, wireless.

Parking and public transport was free.

All in all it was good fun.

Interesting for Marco. The coach who would have been part of his recruitment gets sacked. So a new guy comes in and might have a completely different view on the value of Marco. His injury has been a major blow as he is well behind the rest of the squad now. I would not be surprised if he is loaned out once he recovers.
