Played 84' and scored the momentary equalizer in a 2-1 loss away at St Gallen.

Marco scored in the 67th and was substituted in the 84th. In a strange twist of events, Thun found themselves with an extra man three minutes later. Then on the 90th they too had player red carded and in the second minute of injury time St Gallen scored the winner.

EDIT: San Gallen had their men sent off in the 87th, not 70th as I implied earlier.

Better off staying in Switzerland to be honest.

How Stuttgart stayed up I'll never know. Play shark all season, pick up a few points here and there, win last 3 games of the season, finish 14th, and higher than they did for the previous campaign, when they played equally as crap.

Decisions, decisions for Marco though.

Totally agree that he should stay at Thun. As someone said if he gets a full pre season(which might include Europa League games) and gets loads of game time then he should really come out firing. To be fair to Marco he had a really disruptive season. He got shuttled around Germany and then ended up at Thun midseason. He has done OK considering he would have had to learn all the Thun playing systems, adapt to yet another coach and then an try and compete for a place in the starting lineup.

I think he has the talent to really shine in a League like Switzerland. He just needs stability. Going back to Stuttgart would be a disaster IMO....he would be unlikely to start and would probably spend another year on the bench

Credible 2-2 result with league champions Basel yesterday.

67 minutes for Marco - Defensive substitution? (1-0 up at the time).

Basel then scored 2 in 2 minutes, only for Thun equalise in the last 5.

Swiss football season draws to a close this weekend, with Thun looking to hold onto 3rd place against already relegated Aarau.

He seems to have come off after 13' a 3-2 loss vs Aarau. Injury?

Marco saying on Facebook that he's staying at Thun for another season. Not sure if it's another loan or a transfer. Either way I reckon that's good news.

Think that is great for him. Will get a full preseason behind him and hopefully get back to his best

Very happy to hear that. Smart on Marco's part to only commit to an extra year.

He needs to have a great, injury-free year, where he bosses the league. And then he needs to seriously weigh up whether he wants/is able to play in a TOP European league, or the likes of Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal etc might be a better fit for him.

Played an hour in FC Thun's pre-season hit out against recently relegated Aarau. No mention of Marco in the match report on the club's website, so I won't link it.

Below is FC Thun's formation and goals. They won 3-0.

Thun: Ruberto; Glarner (73. Joss), Reinmann (59. Siegfried), Sulmoni (73. Schindelholz), Schirinzi (59. Bürki); Hediger (73. Zino); Ferreira, Frontino (73. Markovic), Wittwer, Rojas (59. Sutter); Buess (59. Karlen).

Tore: 32. Ferreira (1:0), 47. Frontino (2:0), 62. Glarner (3:0)

Thun drew 1-1 in Jerusalem in Europa League qualifying. An 87th minute penalty got them a crucial away goal and they should be favourites to win next week.

On the bench today for opening match of the season v Grasshopper.

Probably a good thing too, just approaching H/T and Thun getting spanked 5-1.

There's the rub for small clubs playing in Europe. Thun did a fabulous job during the week playing in the Europa League but unless you have a big squad its very difficult to back up in a domestic game a few days later.

But still its great to see Marco getting European football...he's now playing for a club where he can express his true ability. i hope he has a big year.

By the way...Rojas??? that sounds a bit foreign to me. Have NZF checked out his eligibility to play for NZ....LOL  (this is a joke)

I'm still not convinced. At this rate we'll only have Durante and Sigmund, the former because he has been cleared by FIFA, and the other because we know he's Kiwi through and through. I really miss that chant.

Marco picked up an assist for Thun in Europa League qualifying this morning. Subbed off in stoppage time as Thun tried to hang on to the lead - which they managed to do. 3-2 win on aggregate.

Great stuff; he's had a real rough time of it, so I hope he kicks on now

Had a few great touches apart from the goal too - set the first in motion + free kick and almost scored a chip.

Very high profile manager.

One of Switzerland's best players of the last 25 years. 79 caps. World Cup '94; Euro '96

I remember seeing him a lot on ESPN in the 1990's and early 2000's.

A creative midfielder of Italian ancestry. Should be a good mentor for Marco.

Won the Bundesliga with Bayern and Kaiserslautern, UEFA Champs League with Bayern.

Former Luzern and Grasshoppers manager.

Not only was he born in Hamilton, his mother is a Kiwi. Great grandfather served at Gallipoli I seem to remember reading somewhere.

So he could be eligible to play for NZ. Maybe. At a push. :)

I think they're from Luxembourg but play in the Swiss top flight, in Europa as the won the Lux cup or something i guess as you wouldn't have teams from the same country meeting at this stage.
