Took a damn long time to get to sleep after that adrenaline rush, feeling it today!
Thought we played really nicely going forward, in the first half especially. McGing was solid, Payne not his best, but made to look worse by a obvious push in the back (no matter what Bozza reckons). He wins that header every time if Duke doesn't shove him, and the refs missing that is the expected standard for the league unfortunately.
Neither of our first 2 goals happen if Fenton starts (he never plays the ball to Davila that Rufer does and Devlin isn't on the pitch to score that worldie), so hard to say we'd have done better without him. Rufer defensively was definitely not a RB, but I thought he did reasonably well all things considering. Hard to blame him for the first goal when he was marked up on a striker. I understand why he moved there instead of breaking up a CB partnership that had been miserly until last night to push Payne wide as well, just wish we had someone like Callan Elliot ready to cover Fenton!
Having to pick 2 of Rufer, Devlin and Lewis in CM must be a great headache for Uffie to have, and he can mix and match depending on the makeup of the opposition.
Was nice to see more from Hemed, better linkup play. Still off the pace, but catching up. Nicely taken penalty and great snap shot for the "goal", pretty damn unlucky for it to be ruled out like that. I maintain the current offside rule cannot coexist with VAR, because offsides are black and white, on or off yet that was never meeting the definition of a "clear and obvious" error. Still wouldn't give him a start over Waine who I thought had his best game to date for us, did a great job of holding the ball up and letting us get forward after playing vertical passes to him.
Davila and Piscopo are combining well and if we keep that standard of play we can push anyone in the league this year, love watching this side under Uffie and feels like we're just starting to get going.
