He's played 8 games in the Bundesliga in 2018 as DM and has been capped by German youth sides up to and including U20s and played at the 2015 U20 World Cup. He's also a fairly big unit, at almost 1.9m tall and is still only 24. I reckon while he doesn't have super inspiring stats, he's definitely got the potential to be an important part of our team.
As a point of camparison, Steinmann has played a lot more senior football and at a higher level than A-Rod who was signed merely on the basis of promise shown in Sunderland's reserve/youth team. That was a much bigger risk.
And A-Rod turned out to be okay without being outstanding.
Steinmann started three games last season for the Hamburg first team in the 2.Bundesliga along with appearances for the reserves and only went to Denmark halfway through the German season where he started eight games in their top league from February on.

He played the full 90 minutes for Hambug's reserve team in the first game of the Regionalliga season as recently as two weeks ago.
I saw a lot of that German u-20 side Steinmetz was part of in the 2015 World Cup because they played all their games in Christchurch.
It was a very good side and unlucky to go out on pens to Mali in the quarter-final.
Steinmetz started two group games and made two second half sub appearances, including the quarter-final.
I think he'll turn out to be a good signing considering his experience and the decent level he's played at.
