lols i hesitate to say this, but it all hinges on one judgement by the ref
and if you think refs aren't going to make mistakes, fuggedaboudit
Siggy grabbed the redskins shirt, he was the last man and well beaten
so, from then on, it comes down to a ref's judgement whether Siggy's holding denied “an obvious goal scoring opportunity”
If you think he didn't really hold him the second view here shows enough thhat would allow the ref to disagree with you http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/im-no-diver-says-adelaide-reds-player-jeronimo-neumann/story-e6frfg8x-1226506650455
we can all say the redskin was never going to
get to the ball before Paston, and hence no obvious goal scoring opportunity, but Siggy took a risk on how the ref would see
that. Probably thought the worst would
be a free, outside the box, and it was a risk worth taking
tough luck cowboy, the indian won that one
The match review panel then have to find an “Obvious Error”. The way they apply that there has to be proof of no contact, or something similar that PROVES, not that the ref got it wrong, but that information not seen by the referee during the game shows conclusively the wrong decision was made; not just a matter of judgement about whether the redskin might have got to the ball ahead of Paston.
the match review panel just had to say, did he hold him, yes
can we categorically say (and have obvious evidence) that the holding did not affect Jeronimo's balance,
ball control and opportunity to get to the ball before Paston, in which case
there would have been an obvious goal scoring opportunity?
can't really say for sure? is this a referees judgement call? then, we
cannot say this is an obvious error, and we go with the ref’s judgement
and the rude-er bit is that the MRP rules say they cannot suspend the redskin for simulation
unless they have ruled an obvious error first.
i.e. if there was (quite possibly) a foul, then cannot rule on the
dive. That sucks.
shit happens, and a fair bit of anti-'Nix shit happened in this game, but it
happens
C'mon, not that we'd want to admit it, but Siggy is as big a cheat as the
diver, he held the guy fer crissake.
sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you don't
but the way it turned out he might as well have said to the ref, did ya see
that, i grabbed him, yeah, last man, dare you to send me off, maybe i clipped
his heel as well
sure it sucked, sure we had a bunch of calls go against us, sure it arguably
made a difference in the game
but Siggy put himself in harms way and was beaten for position and pace before
he made the decision – it would seem - to commit a foul, to try and make up for
that
I can't really blame him, the same as we all expected Totori to bring Cassio
down on that run,
but let's recognise it for what it was.
Siggy was trying on a professional foul
Siggy; professional foul. Jeronimo; diving. Both cheating in my book. Sometimes you get away with it,
sometimes the referee over reacts. Diving with no contact might be worse,
but going down when you think you've been fouled against and it has affected
your play ... no different to holding for me.
Siggy's red was a tough (bad) call against us imho, should have been a yellow; so was the offside goal against us a tough call, but i think the
lino was unsighted with bodies in the way; so was Dura’s yellow rubbish
we didn't get an even break
but that's football
if you want to watch a game where the better side almost always wins, go watch
rugby
this sort of drama is part of what football is all about
pissed though I am that we did not win and that things did not go our way, I
just hope it galvanises the side in a good way and they don't go out like
grumpy idiots next game, with referees pissed with our whinging, and get a
whole bunch more cards
