From Palmerston North

2 in season 1

3 in season 2

9 games this year at the RoF. Palmy game and the Bahrain playoff.

Generally travel on my own, meet up with Phoenix friends and drive back same night. Easily spend $100+ per game on ticket, food, beer, Nix merchandise etc. You guys don't know how lucky you are living in Wellington and having the Nix in your own backyard

Originally from Welly, sadly moved to Chch and then Switzerland
Only made it to 1 game at ROF
One of the best things about moving back to NZ/Welly will be the Niz  No more having to get up at 5am to watch!

Edit: I have to say my family and friends help me a lot with my addiction tho! I have a finals tee courtesy of my parents rushing in as soon as they got my email and posted it the same day <3

Season 1 - Every game as I lived in Wellington
Season 2 - moved to Auckland, still made maybe 5 or 6 games but haven't been counting, anytime I see cheap flights that co-incide with a nix game I come down
Season 3 - still in Auckland thanks to the playoffs I have probaly made close to 8 games this season at the RoF and also did a boys trip to Melbourne with the original crew for an away game.

I haven't been to any Phoenix games yet (except for the game in Christchurch v Adelaide) and I did brake the budget to fly up for the AW. Debt free by season 10/11 though and will be purchasing a season ticket and flying up for all home games (depending on work).

Season 2 game against Sydney at RoF was early on but after a string of losses and then a heart to heart from terry to the team.

They came out and beat Bling 2-1. That was our first game.

From Otaki, does that qualify me for an out of towner?  Anyways, every game so far at the ROF plus the Palmy Dunny house, plus vs Bahrain, but except one game in the first season when my wife arranged a Xmas party that I had to attend, we didn't speak for months afterward, lol.
Xmas? Bah Humbug.  However she has seen the last 4 Phoenix games at the ROF and is now converted to the true religion.

3/3 at the RoF

1. Chappell-Hadlee historical 10 wicket crushing of Australia (not sure if it's still classed as RoF for cricket but oh well)

2. Bahrain's Pain

3. Jest play-off

Good stats Ahmad.

However when you next come to a HOME game you will have to wear your lucky plastic surgical gown.

The last home loss was our second game and we weren't wearing nix gear at that stage (a couple of flags I think).  Since then we've acquired quite a wardrobe and the nix haven't lost yet.

Hehe :) I picked up a couple of Fever tees while in the Capital so now have yellow in my wardrobe. However the point of bringing those gowns was to ensure the group all had something yellow to wear in case their wardrobes were bare of yellow.

Turned out the weather was so YELLOW that most of the group too them off because they just don't breathe! Mine stayed on until the controversial removal after the Ifill goal

Nix v Perth three weeks ago and Nix v Jets last week. Both times I drove down from Thames (any other Nix fans on here from the 'mandel?).
I also went to AW v Bahrain and I used to go to the odd Kings and Knights game, back in the day.
Next season I hope to go to all the games, but I think I will have to move to Wellington for that.

I've seen two Nix games this season, the game in Palmy and the Jets game. Man the Palmy atmosphere was crud, the Jets game was awesome! Man what a game, bloody hot afternoon though haha..
I was also at the Bahrain game - as I tried to explain to a rugby mad old lady at work, I've seen the All Blacks multiple times, been to super 14/12 and NPC games, and the atmosphere and excitement of that one football game surpased it by a million times. It was like a wonderful epiphany - I had loved football before, and my husband plays, but that one game changed my life.

I know what you mean BecksT, I've been to heaps of rugby and cricket games, but they just don't come close to football crowds. The rugby ones are dull (as is the game!), and cricket crowds are unimaginative and getting stale. I thought the crowds at the Chappell Haddlee games were pathetic, chanting ____ is a w*nker for every Aussie player. It kind of loses its effectiveness, and a simple "who are you?" will suffice! I love the Nix and I love the RoF!

Queenstown.

Season 1 = 2 - Beckham and Adelaide game(same weekend)
Season 2 = 1 - Adelaide last game of season(also went to Oceania XI v galaxy but nowhere near as good)
Season 3 = 3 - Perth(playoff), nov 14 and pre-season game down here.

Not as much as I would like but I guess its just too hard to get up to more.

That atmosphere that you refer to meant that November 14 didn't turn out to be the "one-off" that it was supposed to be. Was sad to not be present for the Perth Playoff, and couldn't bear to miss the Jest game!

Very true Ahmad. That atmosphere was very much alive and kicking on sunday against the Jets! Truely wonderful to be a part of.

A lot of people have commented (and rightly so I think) that the atmosphere on Sunday was "good" but nowhere near as GREAT on Nov 14.

I think it's understandable and doesn't take away from a great game and result, and a pretty decent crowd.

There was SO much history at stake on November 14, especially from a national point of view. The long buildup allowed out of town FOOTBALL fans to make plans to come along for what might be a once-in-a-long-time result, and hence a larger proportion of the crowd actually followed or had an interest in football.

It doesn't take away from the "casual" and "newbie" fans that were there on Sunday though. They were definitely welcome to help fill up the stadium, except for the obnoxious ones there to get pissed.

I thought that the crowd was a little subdued in the first half (not helped by the Jest goal, but by the second half everyone was into the chants and the stadium was rocking.

Hard to compare with November 14 because they aren't the same apples. November 14 was best. night. ever.

I'd say that most of the people on 14 Nov were also "casual" or "newbie" as you say.

Although the atmosphere last weekend wasn't as electric as 14 Nov, I still have got more satisfaction out of how the Nix have done this season, than what happened on 14 Nov for NZ Football.

For me it's probably because I have got to know the Nix team more than the AWs and have "invested" time and emotion into them (and a blimmin good investment it is too).

Even if you add in the Akld regulars from those other teams prior to the Nix to the season regulars in Wgtn that still is much less the half the capacity at RoF.

My point is that in both matches there were a lot of "non-football" spectators. But the atmospheres were quite different.

You reckon a lot of people came from out of town that didn't have much of a football interest? I wouldn't have thought so but that is simply an opinion. I would have thought a lot of the travelling fans would have at least some idea of the game of football?

Regardless you are right. November 14 was "electric". I recall the ball being cleared after a Bahrain attack after just a few minutes and the crowd just went absolutely NUTS. Every tackle/pass/shot just had that extra significance attached to it.

To be honest I can't remember much about the action in either of the two games apart from key moments because I was just so absorbed in the occasion.

But equally one could say that there were a heck of a lot of 07 and 08 YF Ts on show as well last weekend so people which hadn't shown up for the 09/10 season were coming back...

Just arguing the toss really. I don't think the crowd composition would be too different between the games. Just different occasions eliciting different reactions.

Nah Junior you're spot on mate. For many it's still just about the occasion and being there. But hopefully for some they will end up so engrossed by it all they will come back for more and more and end up regulars. Isn't that the whole point?

Three for me, and two for them.

Yip, fair enough.

If the Phoenix were to place 1/2 after round-robin play, do they have the right to host a GRAND FINAL?

I would assume so but I'm not sure given that it's an "Australian" league. I know the NRL have "set venues" for their finals but it seems that in the A-Leagues it is played at the home ground of the higher ranked team - is that right?

Would be an interesting exercise to compare a GF with November 14 ahmad2010-03-12 20:55:57

Me and the old man turned up to both the playoff games (all the way from Napier) and the atmosphere was amazing, it was the old mans first two phoenix games and he said if he could get the time off work in the short notice, he would go to sydney ... I'm totally dedicated to this team and have been since the creation ... It's been amazing to be part of this dedicated fanbase

I think what it comes down to, is the World Cup is every four years, and we hadn't been there since '82. We hadn't had an opportunity like it (Nov 14) to qualify and we may not again in some time. So every kick meant the world (cup) to a New Zealand football fan.

On the other hand, and not to take anything away from their achievements, the Nix will have another opportunity next year should they not win. So Nov 14 was very different to last Sunday, but both remain two of the greatest nights in my life!
