The club is doing the right thing by not negotiating via the media.
It is the FFA who are looking bad with all the leaks.
The mistake the club made is not starting this process soon enough.
The license should have been sorted out before the season started.
Having all this happening with only four months to go is farcicial (farcical?)
Of course, that may have been a delay on the FFA's side.
this licence situation has been going on since the petone stadium was first mooted - has been going on for ages and i'm inclined to proportion more blame to the ffa than the nix
I actually think that the reason that Welnix seemed to not support the Petone stadium idea in public after they first raised it was because it needed a 20 year license to be commercially viable, and the FFA told them they wouldn't grant one after the idea had been raised. Welnix probably wanted to stay onside so they didn't say anything publicly but that meant lots of us (myself included) didn't think they were doing enough to support the idea in public. In reality they knew it was dead in the water but didn't want to say why.
That's my theory anyway.
They were behind it, to the tune of $19 to $23 million.

Morgan said it would be a long haul recouping his arena investment, which is why he would not invest without a 10-year A-league licence either.
That was part of my point - they needed the license/licence to make it viable and they were told by the FFA they weren't going to get it so they gave up on the stadium idea for the time being at least. Remember there was a lot of misinformed criticism in the local media and idiot NIMBYs braying on about it and at the time it seemed like no one from WelNix or the club was publicly rebutting the stupidity
