So no one's concerned about South Melbourne confirming the article posted above?

Did you mean the "South Melbourne Phoenix" troll account on Twitter?

I'm not concerned about that one, because it would theoretically be a takeover and there'll be no Phoenix. Just the fact that South Melbourne have posted about the claims they'll approach us.

I see it as this. There are apparently around 10 bids coming in for the two new proposed expansion spots. Some of these will be strong bids, with a good chance of success, eg South Melbourne & Southern Expansion.

These stronger bids are also sniffing around the Phoenix. They are not interested in any partnership with the Nix, or survival of the Nix - they just want to buy the Nix license, to speed up their entry into the A League.

I'd say Rob Morrison is wasting his time talking to them - unless there is an about turn and Nix do decide to sell. Otherwise he should be telling these predators to fudge off.

However some of the others bidders will have little chance, of having their expansion bid approved. Is there a bid coming in from Canberra?

If so I'd suggest that's one with not a great chance, of becoming one of the two new teams. Does any the Canberra expansion bid involve the ACT Government? If so there maybe an opportunity for Nix to take 2-3 games a year to Canberra, in exchange for ACT Govt and/or a Canberra Group injecting capital into the Phoenix. This may also work in with the Phoenix taking over Canberra Cannons W League team, or similar.

There is a well known precedent for this in Australian sport. Hawthorn Hawks AFL team take about 3 'home' games to Tasmania each year. In exchange the Tasmanian Govt gives Hawks a lot of cash. Admittedly it's much easier for a Melbourne AFL team to build a brand (and therefore grow their supporter base) in Tasmania - a 1 hour flight away - than it ever would be for the Nix to build a brand in Canberra. However if could broker an agreement, whereby say the Southern Expansion team (obviously provided they are accepted to the A League), took their 1-2 Nix home games each year to Canberra as well - and then suddenly you have Nix playing 4 times a year at their 2nd 'home'.

I think North Melbourne Kangaroos AFL team do a similar deal with ACT Govt, ie take some games to Canberra. Western Bulldogs AFL also take games to Northern Territory, Darwin??

How much did Wellington City Council pay St Kilda for those AFL games to come to the Cake Tin?

Anyway I'd suggest what Nix should be doing is talking to those expansion bid groups, that in reality have little chance of being accepted to the A League - but are desperate to have some A League games in their city/area.  Then try to broker a deal with that bid team/state government, with a 'games for cash deal'.

Another locale that might work is Sunshine Coast, Queensland. No chance of joining A League anytime soon - but have a good size stadium, only 1 hour north of Brisbane airport. Plenty of Kiwis live on Sunny Coast. Their netball team were national champs last year - and local University is their big sponsor.

Note if could be made to work, all other Nix games to be in Wellington, ie end of games going to other locales in NZ.

I'm sure Rob Morrison is working hard behind the scenes, trying to make something work. Probably little chance of success in short term, until the two successful bid teams are definitely known (leaving unsuccessful bid teams  to consider their options), and/or Independent A League is confirmed.

North go to Tassie as well, and Bulldogs in the past did go up north but Melbourne are currently the ones that go to Darwin. Greater Western Sydney play in Blacktown, but have specified games in Canberra.

Anyway, I don't know. We need to sort something out quickly. Hopefully Morrison stays true to his word and doesn't sell.
