I put them in here so a new thread didn't have to be created everytime a new partnership is announced, to keep things tidy.

It's still a sponsorship. I'd say most sponsorships for the nix now are a contra of some kind (I know of another one you'd call a sponsor that is the same kind of contra deal).

Also,if they gave cash, then the Phoenix used that cash to use their service - would that then qualify under your definition of a sponsorship? It's a technicality surely. Sponsorship generally isn't just cash.

Fair enough.

Tegal - to be fair to the club in both of these cases they haven't used the word sponsorship themselves. Let's just not kid ourselves about what's happening here. This is the club getting some services at a cheap rate, that's all.

By offering sponsorship as part of the deal.

Most of the apparel "sponsorships" in the A-League are actually just free kit.  There was anarticle on the Perth deal a while back which explained the difficulty (and explained why a number of the clubs had such random kit suppliers)

REVERA RENEW PHOENIX SPONSORSHIP

Business computing infrastructure company Revera have confirmed they will continue to sponsor the Wellington Phoenix for the next two years.

Phoenix general manager David Dome said the new deal was fantastic for the club as it continued to move forward on and off the field.

“We are delighted to have Revera renew its support of the Phoenix for another two seasons,” Dome said.

“Revera  has staunchly supported the Phoenix for many seasons and are right behind some exciting initiatives that we are developing. Revera’s innovative and expert approach to business computing perfectly fits the ideals of the Club.”

“Wellington Phoenix is an important part of Wellington’s sporting culture and contributes to the city and New Zealand football positively. They’re a good bunch to work alongside, we’ve enjoyed the journey so far and we’re delighted to be continuing as part of the sponsorship team” said Robin Cockayne, Revera general manager.

I hope Dome inserted a clause into their contract that they were to help with the yellow fever website as part of the deal

Based on previous "sponsorship" announcements that might be all they are doing!

Do it DD - you will go up in AP's estimation!  What more motivation do you need?

Sure were. You could have a proper dust up in this forum back then.

Not like now.

Apart from trying to provoke JD once in a while, it's pretty boring.

So JD, I hear Fred de Jong has Chris Greenacre lined up as the next All Whites coach. Probably won't even advertise it. What do you think?

You need more than that to get me fired up, need something like Fred appointing himself as Ricki's replacement, moving to 2 at the back and plays long ball with Fallon, Wood, Killen and Smeltz all up front working knock downs for each other.

Edit: and us losing to Tahiti in the process

New Zealand-based soccer club Wellington Phoenix has agreed a sponsorship deal with the Health Promotion Agency (HPA) to remove alcohol signage at its home games and replace it with alcohol moderation messages.

Phoenix, the only non-Australian side in the Hyundai A-League, has penned a deal which will see the club no longer accept sponsorship from alcohol brands and remove alcohol signage from its 36,000-seater Westpac stadium.

Instead, Wellington will receive financial contributions from HPA, a government-owned sponsorship fund.

You'd think the money from that fund could go toward actually helping people rather than taking down a few signs at a stadium.

I look forward to seeing photos of a half naked, sick-covered Feverish slumped over an alcohol moderation banner at an upcoming home game.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

When did we drop Export?
Permalink Permalink

Excellent news, if not somewhat cancelled out by the extensive TAB marketing we're subjected to...

which may not be a popular comment given how much some of you lads enjoy your gambling...

Great to see export has gone. Maybe we can now get some decent (Wellington) beer at the stadium.

Like the moderation aspect. Decent beer =quality over quantity

LOL

I used to do this too (hand money to TAB) only the occasional flutter... but being mates with a guy with a serious gambling problem was a bit of an eye opener... haven't placed a bet for a long long time

The FFA signed all the teams up to an Australian anti alcohol program for a bit of cash. Adelaide were furious. I think it was a bit short sighted, it cuts out a major source of potential revenue for a lot of teams in the future. I don't think we got a lot from Export33 but at least from the sounds of it we are getting some cash from this deal.

Wonder how much they will pay us to put "it's how we are drinking" on the banner.

One would think all of this might be better suited to NRL than A-League, would put the 'moderation' message to proper good use where its needed

That Summit Blonde or whatever it is they're serving at the stadium now is absolutely minging - makes Budweiser taste like a craft beer.

From my sources close to the club - we're doing better through our cut of the HPA money than what we were getting through Export sponsorship

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!
