If some one did come along and got an A-League team for Auckland, what would they need to do to get the support from the fans of Auckland City & Waitakere?
They wouldn't have to get their permission - the arent professional teams.
However it would be silly not to communicate with them and work with them so they can all benefit.
Im asking about the fans, rather than the clubs. What would a new team have to do to win their support? Would support from the two clubs be willing to support 1 team?

I find it very interesting that this would even be an issue, although the history of the Kingz/Knights suggests that it might be. In Wellington the football community has pretty much jumped in behind the Phoenix regardless of any local club loyalties. OK, so there's an extra ASB Prem franchise in Auckland but does that really matter? Wouldn't you just support both? (as ACFC fans on this forum are always imploring us to do with Team Welly).

If there were some people from ACFC involved behind the scenes and the set up was similar to what the Nix now have with ACFC acting as a feeder then I can't see why it wouldn't work nicely. It might actually give ACFC (and the ASB Prem) more stability, while also satiating their supporters desire to compete at the highest level possible (as long as a hardcore few can get past an almost xenophobic dislike of NZ's participation in an 'Aussie' league). Waitakere supporters would just have to decide how petty they are, or get in behind their own bid (which is the same choice facing ACFC supporters if an Auckland bid came from elsewhere).

This post involves no jokes or sarcasm.
