Ifill - really?!  I thought he was poor last week, and continued with an average performance this week too.

Re Ifill, that 33 year old body is clearly taking longer to power back up to full fitness, but I think that in the last two games he has put himself about well, always making himself available, always trying something. Even with an off-song Ifill you can see the panic he throws into defences.

He helped out in defence quite a few times too.

Stein is not a target man, he needs a strike partner to play off. Brockie is not gelling with him.

Try playing Fenton and Stein as inside strikers with Ifill and Brockie as the wingers.

Ok Pastons saves were good, but his distribution was terrible. How many times did he lump the ball up the field to the roar? I lost count

Wouldn't have believed before the game that we would have more possession than Brisbane in the match - we finished with 52%. Reflected our awesome first 30 minutes. A shame that the flow really fell apart. It started to go bad when Lochhead was getting destroyed down his flank. Can't we get an EPL club to sign him yet? Encouraging to see Bertos going past a man and putting in a good cross that (I think it was Brockie) possibly should have got onto and scored from. Could be a decent weapon for us at times this season.

I thought Ifill was good in the first half. Not his super awesome best, but good and dangerous. Was a good save to stop his free kick that would've put us 2-0 up. Heck, that free kick was every bit as good as the one Del Piero scored with last week. Fenton didn't do a lot, but did get his first assist. I hope Smith improves before I have to start getting angsty at him.

Loved the good close range saves by Paston.

Agree on Smith. Good against Sydney, but below average since in my opinion. If Lia puts in the hard yards at training we might yet see him back in midfield.

Against Sydney, Smith was just behind the strikers. He just seemed to drop deeper as the game went on today.

Smith/Muscat is our best 2 man centre midfield. Adding Lia to make it 3 would be nice, but leaving Waffles up front alone won't work. Not sure how we can strengthen it.

Still agree that Smith is best suited to playing further up the park but one feels he was only following Gaffer's orders last night.

Siggy definitely at fault for the goal.  Came charging out of the line when he didn't need to.

Siggy does a great job in general but he also does this far to often. Him and Dura seem to have developed enough of an understanding that Dura will cover it most of the time and it doesn't get remarked on but Boxall didn't do that because he was positioned where pretty much any other CB would have been in that situation. I know Siggy gives 100% every game and makes crucial tackles, but I get frustrated at him barrelling out of defence to attempt an unnecessary tackle, missing it, and then leaving us exposed at the back.

Also I don't think Ifill was too bad, but he seems to have lost a lot of pace. Brockie hasn't done anything of note in 2 games this season and should have been replaced instead of Waffles. That decision killed our attacks. Waffles isn't a targetman but he is decent in the air and good at holding the ball up at his feet. With him gone we just kept hoofing it to Brockie and Totori, one of whom is a midget and the other is pants in the air.
All up though, I think a draw against the defending champs who were also coming off a 5-0 win is decent result, especially when our team has been chopped and changed over the 2 last weeks because the OFC games.

How about giving them, more of a chance than 2 A League games together?

Yes it was a good point given the messy fortnight. We looked spent after about 30 mins, but battled well second half. Thought Lia may have been brought on earlier when we decided to sit so deep in second half. Not Smith's forte. Hard to get a fix on Totori because of the appalling wind. Brisbane are the team to beat for sure, if there was any doubt.

Think the waffle sub was due to fitness. Ricki had previously said that we shouldn't expect too much from him for 5-6 weeks untill he gets up to full fitness.

Again it has been said before - it is a long season, we have not had a settled 3 games, with huge player changes.  Two away games now with time to settle and build team work between some styles and team style. Travel Well.

Just to illustrate how out of position Sigmund is. Left to play to close down the player that manny has picked up.  Think you can share a bit of blame with Manny as he wasn't with 10 years of the player with the ball.

Agreed. He's still looking like our most likely player to score, over a full 90 mins nobody is getting as many shots off as he is. Its only a matter of time until service resumes and hes back to scoring regularly. Keep in mind we're only 3 rounds in, this was his first full 90 at home, against probably the best side in the league. I think if he was fit for our first match against Said knee he wouldve destroyed them, and the nay-sayers would all be singing a very different song

One great point about last night was the fact we had seven kiwis in the starting Line up. Truely a kiwi team now and surely the most kiwi players on the pitch during the history of the knights and nix?

First half hour we were pretty good, after that, really poor I thought.  As soon as Brisbane equalised, I got the feeling we weren't going to score again.

We appeared to have no idea whatsoever in the second half and other than Brockie's 1 shot, I can't remember a single chance created?  Ricki's token subs didn't work either...how about a change of formation rather than straight swaps??

I'm afraid to say that Smith, IMO, is just not good enough in midfield.  If he doesn't have about an hour on the ball to pick a pass, he's no good.  Brockie was almost anonymous, as was Fenton, and I thought Ifill was really quite poor as well.

Best players on the day were Muscat as usual, and Paston for a couple of good saves first half.  Husyegems wasn't bad and I thought it was bizarre that he was taken off ahead of Brockie, Fenton, and even Ifill.

I brought along two friends who had never been to a football match before. One from Dongying in China and she loved it. Very taken by the whole thing.  Her comments  'Phoenix is a lucky name in China because it is the wife of the dragon which is the wife of the Emperor. Yellow is the Emperor only color of the Qing Dynasty'.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Having read a few of the other comments above I have to wonder how on earth it is that New Zealand football teams are often short of coaches when so many GREAT ONES CLEARLY exist!!

Is that Bertos away up there nearest the ball too?  Got to say he was also out of position by a mile...not quite sure how this happened as you can see all the players on the left side are pretty deep.  As mentioned elsewhere though, this is probably the type of through ball that Durante would've covered...

No because sigmund charges out of the line to close down a player he didn't need to.

Regarding Bertos, I'd have to watch it again to see why he is there.. There's no danger on his side though. The problem is still that neither central defender is covering Berisha, who surely we should have been watching closely given the amount of goals he scores.

I don't disagree, I mean I have no idea what Siggy is supposed to be doing away up there in no man's land, but just saying if Bertos had been in position, he could also have covered it.  As you say though, I can't recall what exactly was going on at that moment.

Love all the MICRO-analysis.  I'd put the goal down to Siggy not having the right tension in the laces of his left training boot three seasons back. Buttefly effect  and all that....

Must say I was impressed with the Roar player who went and told Fenton after his rash yellow to go and apologise..and he did and got another pat for doing so.  Good to see that spirit exists..unlike when we could have given teh bal back toi Roar late in secoind half after Totori? foul and Roar kicked it out.
