not a bad effort from the boys. good to hear Ifill had a rest. Although this game really does show our lack of depth in defense. Although I guess we are missing four players. Still not good to think about

it was only a training game and i think both teams took it as such, it was a good hit out for the guys that do not get regular gametime.

i think the 3 boys from hawkes bay united did very well. the young tall boy mar thompson at the back was only 18 and look very comftable at the back with durrante. the left full back matt hastings linked very well and got forward alot linkn well with the front 3 and his delivery was top draw also defended well. and the other boy sam halligan who came on at left back and centre back sloted in well and won everything in the air but didnt look tested to be fair!

Hold off on the doom and gloom, it was a good game and our starting line up against YH was nothing like our starting line up normally, not to mention the three non-nix players (who did perform well). Beyond this the Phoenix looked in control of the game, and i think that to complain that it was ONLY a 2-0 win is taking away from these guys a great morale booster (along with the All Whites result) that will hopefully help them find the back of the net in weeks to come!

the comments about lack of goals are fair enough....It is a sign of a general problem of scoring goals. Both for the first team and the reserves.

You would think a team of professional footballers, a team including such attacking players as Daniel, Caceras, Diego, Chen, Costa, Marco, lia and Hearfield, would be capable of scoring more than one goal from open play. Especially against a team of amateurs who are in preseason mode.

Preseason I watched the Phoenix play such  teams as Tawa and Hutt. They never managed to tear any of these teams apart. In fact they often struggled to dominate at all.

I am not trying to be negative.....but teams like GC were playing preseason games against State sides and winning 10-0. If we can't score a bundle of goals against an amateur team is it any wonder that we struggle to score in the A-league....so whats the answer? buggered if I know

They were playing against state 3rd tier sides and if you watched them last night and against ius last week you'd know that it's done them no good and they look a mile less likely to score than us on current form.

Agreed..I don't see what smashing amateur sides proves.

On another note anyone know when McKain is back?

They were still calling it 3 weeks in the preview for last week so I wouldn't expect him until November.

...Manny will be all over it once he get's back from clogging C. Ronaldo this week.

Should make the A-League seem simple.

Nani/Quaresma/Simao vs Manny will be very exciting.
You know we belong together...
